Are you looking for drama? Then follow the Steelers QB situation – which feels like a game of musical chairs. From veteran experiments to young hopefuls, finding the right guy to lead the offense has been a challenge. But finally, it looks like they have found a solution with their latest signing. A Steelers legend has come out with his verdict as well – calling him the “Best QB” for the team.
Just when everyone was thinking that the Steelers would have a plan after Justin Fields’ exit and would go all-in on a big-name QB, they came up with a move nobody expected – signing Mason Rudolph for two years for $8 million. Now, you must be thinking, “Mason Rudolph, again?” – And you aren’t alone. But here’s the catch: a Steelers’ legend is backing Mike Tomlin’s move to sign him.
And it’s none other than Antonio Brown – yes, you read that right. Antonio (aka “AB”) took to his X account: “Great Move. Was the best QB on the roster two years ago…” And considering Rudolph has spent most of his time with the Steelers, this does seem like the best move they could make. Cause hey, he does understand the team plays and moves on the field, as he stepped in when Kenny Pickett was injured – keeping Pittsburgh’s hopes alive.

Mason Rudolph’s career with the Steelers has been full of ups and downs. Like that friend who is your backup but never your first choice – tough! But he delivers what is expected of him. His best with the Steelers was in 2019 when he stepped in after Ben Roethlisberger got injured and delivered 1,765 passing yards, 13 TDs and a 5-3 record as a starter. He’s accurate, takes care of the ball, and already knows Mike Tomlin’s system inside out.

But honestly, this doesn’t solve all the problems of the Steelers’ QB situation. It does seem like a temporary fix than franchise cornerstone. At the moment, Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be their no.1 option but in this situation, Rodgers is doing what he does best – keeping the suspense alive. And in the meantime, the fans are still waiting for their franchise QB. Enter DK Metcalf, who arrived in Pittsburgh with a new contract and a valid question – who’s throwing the ball to me?
DK Metcalf on Russell Wilson’s future
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback situation just doesn’t end, a new name pops up and makes the whole thing even more messy. And Metcalf was asked the same question which is on everyone’s mind – how he felt about committing to the Steelers when their QB situation is still up in the air. And he said, “They made me feel like they had the right decision with who was going to be throwing me the football. I’m not making the decision in the quarterback room. I’m just going to try to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there.” So, basically, he said – I’m here to catch passes, not handle the QB situation.

But things got spicier when Metcalf confirmed he had a talk with Russell Wilson. Both of them played together in Seattle. But before you start imagining the reunion in Pittsburgh – slow down. Because, as per Metcalf, it was about his engagement and not Wilson’s choice for the next team. “Well, we haven’t talked about his future, number one. But I talked to Russ yesterday, proposed my fiancée, and he was the one that connected us. So, he was just telling me congratulations, giving us a congratulations on that. But last year, I think like halfway through the season, me and Russ had a conversation about how it was living here, and he just told me that I would love it here,” Metcalf said. Further, he said, he is also waiting to find out who Russell will choose for the 2025 season.
So, let’s sum this up: Mason Rudolph is back – with a bang (hopefully). AB thinks it’s a great move. But Aaron Rodgers is keeping everyone in suspense. Russell Wilson is taking meetings as he is a free agent. And DK Metcalf is here, but still confused about who’s throwing him the ball. With the AFC North getting competitive with every passing day, Pittsburgh can’t afford to sign up the wrong QB. Whether it’s Rodgers, Wilson, or some unexpected wildcard, the Steelers need to make a decision—and fast.
