The Steelers‘ quarterback situation is still unanswered. As expected. The team has been jumping between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson like a pendulum. But even after that, they are unable to find who would be the man to lead them from the front in the 2025 season. While there were suspicions that the team was looking for a third completely different quarterback. It appears that recent reports have revealed a new twist in the Steelers’ QB mystery.
Who will the Steelers choose as their quarterback? Fans have been asking this since the 2024 offseason. The team has an experienced quarterback in Russell Wilson, but rookie Justin Fields is performing admirably on the field. This is a major problem, but the GM has made a call. According to a fresh report, Omar Khan and the team have decided to pick one of them when free agency time arrives. At that point, they may do eeny, meeny, miny, moe, and go with the QB on whom the finger will land. However, before then, the quarterback position is accessible to any potential star.
Omar Khan says the Steelers will ‘ideally’ sign one of Justin Fields or Russell Wilson before free agency. However, until that happens, all options are on the table for the Steelers at quarterback.

Interestingly, speculations suggest that the team can find their new quarterback in the NFL Draft. In 2025, the Steelers will have $50.7 million in cap space. This ensures that the team can get any other quarterback they want outside of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. The report stated, “Omar Khan says the Steelers will ‘ideally’ sign one of Justin Fields or Russell Wilson before free agency. However, until that happens, all options are on the table for the Steelers at quarterback.”
While the topic of Wilson and Fields is still going, let’s see what their position is behind the scenes. After all, their image in front of the Steelers management will play a huge role. And interestingly both are on the same level. According to some new sources, Fields is getting attention behind the scenes, and the team can eventually offer him a contract. On the other hand, Russell Wilson is being praised for his loyalty to the squad. Even head coach Mike Tomlin believes Wilson should be awarded for this.
But if they both have a positive image, does this indicate we’re back at square one? Well, not quite, as the reports do not end here.
Russell Wilson and another seasoned quarterback can get preference over Justin Fields
There you go! This is what the Steelers have done with Justin Fields since last year. The squad believes in him but isn’t ready to put him to the test. As a result, the gifted quarterback has been benched in favor of more experienced players. Once again, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that a similar problem exists in the Steelers’ front office. But this time, along with Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold is getting preference over Fields.

The report explained, “Some internal optimism or some sentiment for Fields as an option as the quarterback moving forward. And if both sides are open to a potential deal—we’ll see how this all shakes out—Fields could have options. Because Darnold on the market is the top quarterback. Fields might just be No. 2 based on age and upside.”
Due to all of this, the Steelers are likely to lose Fields soon. The young quarterback has made it clear that he only wants to make a comeback if he can go all in. He wants some independence and regular games to prove himself. However, the team placed so much faith in Russell Wilson that the 25-year-old faded in front of him. And now that Sam Darnold has joined the scene, things could become worse for Fields.

According to sources, the young quarterback could join a new team. And surprisingly this new team could most likely be the New York Jets. So, what are your feelings about this? Should Justin Fields leave the Steelers, or not?
