The Pittsburgh Steelers are deep in offseason mode, making moves, answering big questions, and basically setting the stage for what’s about to be a wild 2025 season. And at the center of it all? George Pickens. The human highlight reel. The sideline toe-tap king. The dude who makes catches that look straight out of a video game.
With his rookie contract ticking down, fans have been wondering—will Pickens stick around, or is he gearing up for a fresh start somewhere else? Well, Steelers GM Omar Khan just hit the brakes on any trade rumors, making it clear that both Pickens and the team are locked in on keeping him in Pittsburgh.

Steelers GM Omar Khan said he had a good exit meeting with WR George Pickens and Pickens wants to be great in Pittsburgh

“He has a desire to be great. He has a desire to be great here. We have a desire for him to be great and to be great here,” Khan said, basically confirming that Pickens isn’t just another player—he’s part of the Steelers’ future.
And let’s be real: the Steelers would be wild to let him go. In 2024, George Pickens hauled in 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns. But stats don’t even tell the whole story. He’s a deep-threat monster, a walking SportsCenter Top 10 clip, and a guy who—when locked in—can take over games. Sure, consistency has been a bit of a question mark, but his ceiling? Straight-up elite.
Now, it’s decision time for the Steelers. Do they lock him down with an early extension, or risk letting him play out his deal and watch other teams throw insane money at him? Given Khan’s comments, it feels like the Steelers aren’t about to let their WR1 go without a fight.
Steelers’ offseason glow-up: The QB drama
If George Pickens’ contract situation wasn’t enough, the Steelers have another massive question to answer: Who’s QB1 next season? Talking about the situation, Omar Khan said, “Ideally, I think you like to sign one of the guys that we had last year,” on Tuesday at the NFL combine, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “But the reality is, they’re both free agents. So, until we get one of those guys under contract, all options are on the table.” Looks like, he is looking at both options minutely.
Russell Wilson pulled up last year after Denver booted him, and while he wasn’t exactly lighting up the league, he was solid. He finished with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only five picks—not superstar numbers, but not bad either. The real question is whether the Steelers want to run it back with Wilson or hand the keys to Justin Fields.
Fields, who spent most of 2024 as the backup, put up 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception when he did get reps. He’s younger, faster, and still has a ton of untapped potential. But do the Steelers want to take that risk, or do they trust Wilson to lead the charge? Reports say team owner Art Rooney II is leaning toward Wilson, but nothing’s locked in yet.

Meanwhile, the Steelers have already started tweaking the roster. They cut outside linebacker Preston Smith, signaling some possible shifts on defense. And they signed defensive back Cameron McCutcheon and running back Jonathan Ward to Reserve/Future contracts. Those are some solid depth moves that could pay off down the line.
And then there’s the T.J. Watt situation, who is heading into the final year of his contract. Well, an ankle injury slowed the pass-rushing menace down at the end of the 2024 season. The Steelers will have to decide. Whether they extend him, adjust his deal, or let things ride, it will be a storyline to watch.

Bottom line? The Steelers’ offseason is pure chaos (in the best way). The front office has a lot on its plate. From figuring out George Pickens’ future to settling the QB battle, and making key roster moves, huge calls need to be made. However, there’s one thing for sure—whatever happens, Steelers fans are in for a ride. Buckle up.
