“I think the biggest piece of the puzzle, we’ve got to address this quarterback position.” Those were the words of the Steelers President Art Rooney II on how he is trying to change his team before next season. See, ever since the Steelers self-destructed, losing 5 games in a row to end this season. QB is the position that has constantly drawn attention. And considering how things are moving in Pittsburgh, the chances of Russell Wilson getting retained only grow slimmer.
When Rooney was asked that one question that continues to hover over Pittsburgh, “Which quarterback do the Steelers choose?” Will it be 25-year-old Justin Fields who showed flashes of brilliance as a starter? Or will they stick around with 36-year-old Russell Wilson even after how their season collapsed suddenly after a 10-3 start? Well, Rooney, for one, made clear what he is looking to do to address their QB room. “I think they’re both capable quarterback, and my preference would be to sign one of them.”
While Rooney continues to search for whom he feels would be the right one to lead them next season, one thing he is proud of is the winning culture. “We just need to continue to build on the culture that we have and players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward. Those kind of players help you with the culture and make sure that it’s being passed down to the younger players.” See, the Steelers haven’t had a losing record for decades. Likewise, Watt and Heyward haven’t tasted any real playoff success in Pittsburgh.

Art Rooney II is comfortable with the Steelers culture: “I’m very comfortable with the culture in this team. I think it is a winning culture. I think people need to keep it in perspective here. Even though we haven’t reached our goal of winning a Super Bowl, we’ve had winning… https://t.co/Up0BCuKvsg

However, the thing that could be surprising for some is that Rooney didn’t mention Wilson’s name. Isn’t he also supposed to be a torchbearer for younger players? Well, probably not, at least in Pittsburgh. Maybe Wilson needs to find a new home soon. And a door has probably already opened up for him in Las Vegas. With the arrival of his former Seahawks coach, Pete Carroll, Wilson could soon switch from black and gold to black and silver. But hold on! It probably won’t be a straightforward deal, even though Carroll has taken up reigns in Sin City.

Pete Carroll throws shade on Russell Wilson’s switch to the Raiders
The Steelers may already have a replacement lined up in Justin Fields if they don’t move forward with Wilson. However, things are way different in Vegas. After finishing with a record of 4-13, the Raiders got themselves a No.6 overall pick. And, seeing how Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell both struggled to find a footing this season. The Raiders could be obliged to draft a QB and finally bring some much-needed stability at center. However, they can’t just pick a freshman and give him the role of a starter. Grooming him for the position before handing him the keys to the offense would be a much better option.
So, considering the history both Carroll and Wilson shared in Seattle. His joining the Raiders for a season or two could help the rookie slowly take up the mantle from Wilson. But it seems like Pete Carroll is still in the midst of accessing all his options. He feels, “It’s so early, and we’re just in the midst of trying to find the puzzle pieces. We’re not even putting them together yet. So I can’t even say.” However, it’s not like Carroll is ruling out Wilson from contention in Vegas. If he feels Wilson is the right man, he would probably sign him soon enough, “I promise you. If you’re a real competitor, you’re not letting options get away from you.”

Well, for now, only time will tell where Wilson will actually land next season. He could either remain in Pittsburgh or leave because the Steelers still haven’t completely ruled out the option of not signing him back. Yeah, his value may have gone down. But Wilson’s 13-year experience would surely come in handy for both the Steelers and the Raiders.
