Matthew Stafford spent the offseason basically living in an NFL version of The Bachelor, except instead of roses, teams were throwing trade rumors at him left and right. The Raiders? Interested. The Jets? Lurking. The Colts? Checking their bank account. For a minute, it really seemed like Stafford might be packing his bags. As for the fans…well, they’re on the edge of their seat, speculating whether Stafford would don a different jersey.

But nope, the 37-year-old QB is a true Ram. Because, just when we thought we were heading for a dramatic breakup, the Rams doubled down on their guy. After all, the guy led the Los Angeles team to three playoffs in the last four seasons and a Super Bowl win. But let’s be real—considering the team’s success, Stafford and his wife, Kelly, wouldn’t have wanted to leave LA, right? Well, Sean McVay just confirmed this.

On Monday, McVay appeared on the Pat McAfee Show where McAfee talked about how moving somewhere else could be frustrating for Stafford and his family if he would’ve traded. To his response, McVay stated, “You’re exactly right, Pat, and that’s the thing I think you know, you want guys to feel great about where we’re going and choose and do these four years of equity that we built up means something,” the HC said. “I always tell our guys, I see better than I hear and I saw him (Stafford) and his family make a choice to stay with us and that sure means a lot to me.”

Well, let’s just say, moving somewhere else has been a major concern for Matthew and Kelly Stafford. I mean, the QB spent over a decade with the Detroit Lions and was later traded to the LA Rams. Imagine settling down in a city for over a decade, getting used to everything, and then—boom—you gotta pack up and move. You finally start feeling at home in a new place, and guess what? Time to move again. Kinda wild, right?

That’s exactly where Matthew and Kelly Stafford probably found themselves in the past few weeks. Luckily, the QB and the team are finalizing an agreement and Stafford is now staying in LA. The team has agreed with the QB on a restructured contract. The QB is entering the final year of his current contract and is expecting an extension soon. However, that’s not the case with Stafford’s friend, Cooper Kupp.

Cooper Kupp’s legacy is cemented as a Ram

Early last season, the trade rumors for the wide receiver Cooper Kupp kicked off when the Rams lost 4 games after the first 5. However, when the team rebounded after that setback, the rumors shut down. Fast forward to now and here we are. The 31-year-old veteran WR is going to don a new jersey in the next season. However, the WR is going after making a deeper connection with the team, especially with the HC, Sean McVay.

When asked, “How do you feel about Cooper Kupp as just as a human in general?” McVay straight up admitted the impact Kupp had on his life. “Yeah, I think the first thing you acknowledge is the impact this guy’s had on my life,” MaVay said. “Most importantly as a human, I’m a better person for having been around Cooper Kupp. Obviously his production, he’s such a baller, he did so many great things for us over the course of his career and we’ve been through a lot together.”

“And I think one of the things I’ve always appreciated about Cooper, he was one of those few people that he always—I know he loved me enough to be able to tell me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear and really challenged me and I’m better for having been around him. His legacy is cemented as a RAM.” The WR signed a 3-year $80.1M contract extension with the Rams back in 2022.

The guy’s expected to leave the Rams after having a notable season where he tallied 710 yards in 11 starts and racked up 6 touchdowns. Now, the head coach had to make one of the toughest decisions of this offseason. “It was arguably as hard a decision as we’ve had to come to, since I’ve been the head coach here, and so you don’t take it lightly,” McVay continued. “He was such a stud in terms of the dialogue and being able to have some of those real conversations. And he’s going to do a great job wherever his next stop is.”

The Rams front office has already informed him that he’s not in their future plans for the team. With that being said, Matthew Stafford will be playing the next season without Cooper Kupp.
