Is Spencer Rattler the underdog story the Saints need to rally behind this season?

“Very excited, very blessed. This has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. Just blessed to be here, blessed that the Saints picked me,” is what Spencer Rattler said when he became the 150 overall pick for the New Orleans Saints in the 2024 draft. Faith is a huge part of this ex-Southern Carolina quarterback, and he makes sure to pay his tribute to God any opportunity he gets.

Six quarterbacks were picked before Rattler got inducted into the league, but he knew in his heart that someone would come and pick him up. What team picked him up didn’t matter to him. The New Orleans Saints QB had “faith” that he would be picked on the day he did. Let’s get to know more about the religious side of his life.

What is Spencer Rattler’s religion and ethnicity?

Spencer Rattler was born to Michael and Susan Rattler on September 29, 2000, in Phoenix, Arizona. Of course, the QB is American and is half Caucasian and half African American. Rattler follows Christianity and religion is a huge part of his life. He often uploads pictures on social media with Bible verses for captions.

About 4 years ago, the QB uploaded a picture of him kneeling on the field with his teammates and captioned it, “I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ~Psalm 16:8.” This seems to be during his time in Oklahoma.

But that’s not all. He uploaded another picture about 3 years ago where he can be seen with Marvin Mims Jr. He captioned the post with another Bible verse: “If God is for me, who can be against me? Romans 8:31.” It should be pretty evident how important God is to him by now. His faith carried him all this time and fast forward a few years later, he got inducted in the NFL. However, he didn’t forget his roots.

Spencer Rattler stays true to his faith

The Saints QB took to IG about four months ago and uploaded a photo with another simple message: “Count your blessings.” It’s a photo where Rattler is dressed up in the Saints kit and the carousel has various photos of him posing in a throwing action, a photo with a Saints helmet on, and many others.

Till now, Rattler was playing behind Derek Carr, and hurling him on the frontline was not the plan. But since he’s here, he’ll have to put the best efforts in if his team has to reach the playoffs this year. The Saints had a pretty good start to the 2024 season and it’s just the beginning for Spence Rattler.
