The times just became harder for the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. He was the favorite to complete the 3-peat. But in the Super Bowl LIX, exactly the opposite happened. Not only did he lose the game, but the dominance of the Eagles ravaging them was a petty sight to watch. Now, something more personal loss has come. No one thought it would come at such a time.

The quarterback’s mother, Randi Mahomes, shared a heartbreaking update on Instagram on February 14, announcing the demise of his grandfather, Randy Martin. While sharing the photos of the QB and his siblings with her father, she revealed the bad news to the world. Messages started pouring in from everywhere, including the Chiefs owners.

Gracie Hunt paid her tribute by writing, “Sending love & prayers to you & the fam 🙏🏼🤍🕊️.” Her younger sister, Ava Hunt, also joined in and commented, “Praying for you and the fam love you all ❤️🙏🏼” We know the signal caller is a family man. Patrick Mahomes once famously remarked he would leave the game if it interfered with his family time.

The owners, Clark Hunt and his wife, Tavis Hunt, also understand this. They even appreciate it. Tavis also posted a lengthy message, trying to share the tough time with him, and wrote, “I’m so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I pray that you feel God’s comforting presence and that He will bring you peace and strength in the days ahead. May His love surround you, and may you find comfort in the cherished memories you hold close.🙏🕊️

It was a tough season for the Grim Reaper. Almost all of his family members were involved in some or other problems.

In August 2024, just before the season, his father Pat Mahomes pleaded guilty to a DWI charge. But he was fortunate as the court only handed him a 5-year probation with 1 year of intense supervision. Just when that case was settled, his wife got in trouble.

She supported Donald Trump, which miffed many people. They came attacking her on social media, forcing her to put out blunt replies. In the week 9 game against the Buccaneers, his mother openly supported Trump, wearing a MAGA cap. But the Chiefs QB always remained neutral. But this loss hits hard.

In the months before her father’s passing, Randi shared updates on her father’s health, including his transition to hospice care and his excitement about watching his grandson play in the Super Bowl. On January 24, Randi, 52, revealed on her Instagram Stories that her father had entered hospice care.

Randy was hospitalized in September 2024 for an undisclosed reason. At the time, Randi turned to X, asking for prayers: “Prayer warriors, please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well,” she posted on September 13.

During the bye week before the postseason, Patrick Mahomes got moments of happiness with the arrival of his 3rd child, Golden Raye Mahomes, in January this year. However, his grandfather’s battle with illness was a constant concern for the family.

Had he won the big game, it would have been a 3-peat. A memory of his ailing grandfather before dying, the loss just became more personal for him.
