Did the Colts make a huge mistake choosing Watson over a seasoned vet like Joe Flacco?

Joe Flacco‘s phone did ring, but it wasn’t the Browns calling him to come back, per Mike Florio. Never mind, he did come to Indiana, and boy, what an introduction that was in week 4 against the Steelers. But what’s the remedy?

Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Flacco attributed his calmness and readiness to step in when Anthony Richardson was ruled out to the strong, healthy dynamics in the quarterback room. “You spend so much time together, you take so much. So, it’s hard not to have that.”

Joe Flacco’s relief performance for the Colts was stellar—he led them to hand the undefeated Steelers their first L of the season. His stats? 16 of 26 over 168 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Not bad for a guy stepping in cold. And let’s not forget, Flacco’s had his share of AFC North battles during his Ravens years. Seems like he’s still got that rivalry magic, huh?

He’s now completed the Baltimore football trifecta—playing for the Ravens, the Browns (who used to be the old Browns before moving to Baltimore), and now the Colts (who also left Baltimore back in the day).

It’s wild to think the Browns didn’t re-sign him after his 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year win. With Deshaun Watson’s hefty contract looming over Cleveland, some fans are questioning if they made the right call.

Guess the age might have put them off. Don’t blame them as Flacco’s approaching 40.

Have an interesting take?

Anthony Richardson’s mom is not too older than Joe Flacco!

Joe Flacco has seen it all in the NFL, and now, at 39, he’s playing the role of wise backup for the Colts. After their week 4 win, Flacco became the talk of social media. Especially when he joked about being eight days older than Anthony Richardson’s mom.

“There’s no chance in the world he thinks I’m cool,” Flacco said, showing he’s got a sense of humor to match his experience. Second-oldest QB in the league? No big deal for Joe.

Flacco’s performance in week 4 was solid. Sure, he had 10 incompletions, but he still led the Colts to a win, showing he’s more than just a backup. His first TD was a four-yard pass to Josh Downs in the first quarter. Later, he connected with Drew Ogletree for a crucial fourth-quarter score. Flacco might not be the flashiest, but his veteran presence can’t be denied.

With the Colts facing the Jaguars in week 5, you’ve got to wonder—will we see more of Joe Flacco’s magic on the field, or will he stick to his backup role? That would obviously depend on Richardson’s injury update. But it’d be a good dilemma to have for the Colts.
