Is Belichick right to defend Watson, or is the Browns QB just not cut out for the NFL?

The NFL season has already started and several teams have had their Week 1 face-offs. While some players have run away with a victory, others fell flat on their faces!  And one such player whose disappointing performance has been making waves is Deshaun Watson.

While the Browns’ Sunday’s game against the Cowboys is still in headlines, fans have been raising eyebrows on Watson. But now the six-time Super Bowl-winner head coach, Bill Belichick, has come to the QB’s defense! On Wednesday’s Coach with Bill Belichick episode, the former New York Giants defensive coordinator reacted to news anchor John Fanta’s rant! After watching the anchor’s video, media analyst Mike Lombardi asked the greatest head coach of all time that what he thinks about the video, as he has seen it all.

Belichick said, “Like the 31-0 loss at Buffalo in 2003? You commit as a team to get better, and each individual player and coach needs to get better, too.” The ‘student of the game’ mentioned how practice is important and real-time game decisions are also a part of practice. Moreover, the coach stated that not only Deshaun Watson, but every Browns player has to pull out all the stops to win the next game.

Watson did not play well in the Week 1 game. He threw 24 of 45 passing for 169 yards, receiving one touchdown, and two interceptions. The Browns were defeated handily by the Cowboys, with a final score of 33-17, marking a rough start to the season for the team. And when Fanta slammed Deshaun Watson’s performance as disgraceful, the former head coach didn’t hold back and responded, “I think whatever happens in week one, you pick up the pieces.” He added how the season is long and the game has its good and bad days. But what is the Patriots’ 31-0 embarrassment?

Is Belichick right to defend Watson, or is the Browns QB just not cut out for the NFL?

Have an interesting take?

There is a famous saying that even the best of the best can still have a rough patch. Well, this quote perfectly suits the Patriots‘ 2003 defeat! Can you even believe that the team with the greatest Head Coach, Bill Belichick, and best quarterback, Tom Brady, faced one of the biggest defeats?

Well, let’s go back to the 2003 season opener game where the New England Patriots faced the Buffalo Bills. The six-time Super Bowl winner witnessed their worst loss in Patriots’ history with multiple turnovers and a struggling offense. It’s clear that its not just Deshaun Watson, who had a bad day!

Even legendary players like Tom Brady had a rough game, throwing four interceptions and completing just 14 of 28 passes for 123 yards. And that’s just the beginning! The offensive line fumbled, causing Brady to be sacked multiple times and resulting in negative passing yardage at times. Sad, right?

And the problems didn’t end on offense! The defense also faltered, failing to stop the Bills’ offense, including a touchdown pass from Drew Bledsoe and a 37-yard interception return by Sam Adams. Well, all the key penalties and missed scoring opportunities added to the Patriots’ misfortunes. However, the Patriots know how to take revenge! The team beat the Bills with the same record of 31-0 in Week 17.

Every player and team has their rough days. With the season just starting, it is too soon to judge Deshaun Watson’s performance and skills!
