While Aaron Rodgers is widely considered one of the greats in the NFL, one sports columnist chooses to disagree. The Super Bowl XLV champion has been awarded the MVP title four times. It is because of these amazing states that the New York Jets chose the quarterback to be their messiah last year.
Rodgers has played 18 seasons in the league and was traded to the Jets last year from the Green Bay Packers. With everyone’s expectations pinned on Rogers, the veteran unfortunately didn’t get much of a chance to play with an Achilles injury in the 1st week. Now, with his impending return post-recovery, sports commentator Skip Bayless had some strong opinions about the Jets’ quarterback.
Bayless calls Aaron Rodgers a “Phony GOAT”

In his segment on The Skip Bayless Show, the columnist was asked about who he considers as the “Lebron of the NFL.” Bayless read about the question sent by a fan who considered Russell Wilson to be fitting of the title. While Bayless acknowledged where the fan’s choice was coming from, he had a different name he deemed fit for the comparison with the NBA star.
Bayless holds Rodgers as a fitting candidate for the title. Citing his reasons, the commentator pointed out that the quarterback has won four MVP titles, and his “master media manipulator” skills are on par with the basketball legend. Interestingly, Bayless is of the opinion that both Rodgers and James are fake GOAT (greatest of all time) players. Bayless also said that Lebron could be “a drama king” and that “Aaron is all about Aaron.”
“But to me, the Lebron of the NFL is clearly Aaron Rogers. He’s won four MVPs. He’s the master media manipulator on Lebron’s level. I continue to see that Aaron Rodgers is the GOAT.” Bayless expressed, “He is the phony GOAT as Lebron is.”

The sports commentator went on to back up his strong statement with statistics about the veteran quarterback and felt that fans failed to see certain aspects of Rodgers’ performance in recent years. He particularly quoted the Packers’ Super Bowl as an example, which catapulted Rodgers into popularity.
Rodgers “took advantage” of Steelers’ weak roster per Bayless

Bayless talked about Rodger’s sole win at the Super Bowl years ago in 2011, against the Steelers. He feels that the quarterback “took advantage” of the injuries suffered by the Pittsburgh players. “So he did win; Aaron did that one long ago, faraway Super Bowl as a rogue wildcard team with no expectation. He got the Polamalu with a pulled hamstring; Ryan Clark may be on his last late career legs. He took advantage.”
The sports columnist feels that despite his accolades, the fans fail to see that the veteran hasn’t been performing exceptionally well in recent years. Bayless referred to his “playoff flame-outs” as the reason for “his departure from Green Bay.” The sports columnist further pointed out Rodgers’s 2019 season as a marker of how the quarterback hasn’t performed exceptionally well since his Super Bowl win.
Bayless also mentioned Rogers’ dipping QB ratings and his failure to help his team win against the Detroit Lions to make it to the playoffs. “To go back to 2019, he went to San Francisco on a loss 37-20,” Bayless said. “His QBR that day was 23 on a scale of 0 to 100.” The analyst further added, “He ended his Green Bay saga in the final regular season game. All he had to do was beat Detroit at home, at Lambo, to get to the playoffs and he lost.”

A-Rod will be returning to the field this upcoming season after his recovery from his Achilles tear injury. With the New York fans’ high expectations and with Bayless’ remarks, Rodgers has much to prove after his last inactive season.
