Can Matthew Stafford's optimism turn the Rams' season around, or is it just wishful thinking?

Week 10 came with a major blow to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. They faced the Miami Dolphins at their home ground and ended up with a 15-23 loss. Now this resulted in advancement of losing points in the NFL standings – 4-5. But the good thing is, quarterback Matthew Stafford knows the reality.

During the post-game press conference, via journalist Michael J. Duarte on X, QB Matthew Stafford said, “We shot ourselves in the foot in that strike zone area. That was the difference in the game, not coming up with touchdowns.” In the game, the Dolphins forced two turnovers, keeping the Rams out of the end zone despite earning 327 yards.

In addition to that, Matthew Stafford wasn’t able to score a single touchdown, as he finished off the game with 32 of 46 attempts for 293 yards, i.e. just 70% of his passes. Moreover, he was also intercepted once in the matchup. Well, touchdowns were indeed scarce in this battle, as both teams ground it out through field goals and turnovers.

However, Miami was able to find a way through it. Right from the first drive, Malik Washington set the tone with a hard-fought, rushing touchdown. Then, in the third quarter, Tua Tagovailoa, who was fearing concussion, connected with Tyreek Hill for a quick one-yard score.

On the other hand, Miami’s defense held strong, keeping the Rams out of the end zone entirely. Hence, in this way, the Phins were able to score, but the Rams lagged behind. As a result, this win gave a sigh of relief to Miami as they snapped their three-game losing streak, bumping up to 3-6.

But for the Rams, however, it was a tough slip below .500, dropping them to 4-5. Nevertheless, besides all these, quarterback Matthew Stafford still sees a silver lining to this loss.

Have an interesting take?

Matthew Stafford didn’t dwell too long on the loss. Instead, he saw a chance to bounce back quickly. With just days to prepare, the Rams will now be heading to New England, to face the Patriots on Sunday, November 17.

Hence, Stafford is remaining optimistic, and is also pretty confident that his team will win in the upcoming game. This is evident in his statement when he said, “I kinda love (having a short week). Obviously, I don’t enjoy losing football games. So let’s get back out there as soon as we can and try to win one.”

On one hand, the quarterback is optimistic and ready for the Week 11 game, on the other hand, coach Sean McVay isn’t impressed with the team. During a presser, McVay expressed, “We didn’t do nearly a good enough job offensively… There just really were a lot of examples of the importance of continuity… We got to evaluate everything.”
