A 74.0 percent completion rate! Shedeur Sanders was highly accurate when delivering passes in the 2024 season. In fact, he was once considered a potential first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. But somehow, his draft stock seems to be slipping further and further. Many analysts believe the Colorado QB lacks the elite traits or athleticism needed to be projected as a first-rounder.

So, do the New York Giants—who many speculate have an interest in Sanders—share the same opinion? Let’s admit it—the Giants don’t have an immediate need to draft a QB like Shedeur Sanders. They’ve already added Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston while also re-signing Tommy DeVito. So, what’s next for the franchise?

Albert Breer analyzed the team’s situation, hinting that the Giants might pass on Sanders in April’s Draft. During a new episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Breer mentioned that the Giants might overlook Shedeur Sanders and instead draft one of his teammates. He stated: “If you put a gun to my head today, I would say Abdul Carter at two to Cleveland (and) Travis Hunter at three to the Giants. I think the Giants have protected themselves so they don’t have to force anything at quarterback.” That seems right, considering the quarterbacks they already have.

So, the NFL insider believes that Shedeur Sanders might not be a first-round pick. He even compares him to Bo Nix, saying, “I think there are a lot of moving pieces with both those teams (Giants and Browns). My guess right now would be that neither of them take Shedeur and then it becomes anywhere’s guess where Shedeur goes. Because like I said to you last week, he’s sort of like Bo Nix to me.” Okay, but how?

Continuing with his explanation, he said, “Sanders is like this year’s version of Bo Nix, where last year, very few teams had Bo Nix as a first-round pick. He had to find a fit, and he obviously found that in Denver. No one cares where anybody had him anymore because he played great for the Broncos. I think that’s Shedeur this year, where a lot of teams don’t look at him as a first-round Talent, and he’s going to have to find a fit.” Nix’s production? 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

In March, former NFLer Keyshawn Johnson mentioned that the Giants should take Shedeur Sanders after accepting Russell Wilson for a year.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Shedeur Sanders the next Bo Nix, or will he prove the doubters wrong in the NFL?

Have an interesting take?

He expressed, “In this situation, you’re basically signing bridge players as backups. So, to speak right, Jameis is there… The other, do whatever at the end on the other side, then you bring in Russell Wilson. And I’m predicting they draft Shedeur (Sanders) at the number three spot, or Cam Ward is another option.” A lot of QB energy in one room sounds a bit strange, doesn’t it?

Hence, to settle things down, Johnson highlighted that the Giants should move on from DeVito later and help Sanders learn and grow behind a Super Bowl champion and another veteran player.

But given the current situation, Breer doesn’t think it’s going to happen. According to him, with all the moving pieces, Shedeur Sanders’s landing spot remains uncertain. Similar to the Oregon quarterback Denver drafted with the No. 12 pick in the first round last year, Sanders must find a team that believes in him.

And according to Mel Kiper Jr., some teams could be potential options for the QB—but not in the first round. One thing is certain: the Giants are definitely not one of them.

Could Shedeur Sanders’s drop in the draft be favorable for him?

Shedeur Sanders is one of the most talked-about names as the draft approaches. Some see him going as high as No. 3 to the Giants. Others think he might slide down the first round. Even with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, the Giants could still take him. But if they pass, Sanders might have to wait. According to Mel Kiper Jr., the Saints at No. 9, the Steelers at No. 20, and the Rams at No. 26 are all possible landing spots for Sanders.

As per the analyst, even history shows that quarterbacks drafted in the top five usually have the best chance at success. But slipping in the draft isn’t always a bad thing. Some of the best quarterbacks in the league weren’t top picks. If Sanders falls, it could work in his favor.

It’s that the Giants will probably draft a quarterback early. If it’s not Shedeur Sanders at No. 3, they’ll look for another option later. They could also go for a top talent like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter instead. But one thing is certain – Sanders is going to hear his name called soon. Whether it’s in the top five or later in the first round, his NFL journey is just beginning.
