Great minds think alike.‘ That’s something that might apply to Shedeur Sanders once he makes it to the NFL, and not before. But after the Colorado Buffaloes beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a 52-nothing blowout, one would say that Sanders is at his peak. That reminded us of Joe Burrow’s performance in the CFP Championship game against Clemson.

Coincidentally, the Buffs QB admires Joe Burrow, and Tom Brady for that matter. And his reasons are not complicated at all. If anything, Sanders likes Burrow and Brady because of the realistic benchmark they set as an example for others to follow. In the December 10 installment of the 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders podcast, the Buffs QB shared his thoughts on what Burrow and Brady mean to him.

The co-host of the show provided Sanders with a list of players. Also, he asked him to pick his most influential quarterbacks. Surprisingly, Jayden Daniels made it to the list along with the likes of Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Baker Mayfield, Jameis Winston, Kyler Murray, and many others. But Sanders didn’t even need to take a long, hard look at the list. He already knew what he was going to say.

“I would say Joe Burrow,” Sanders said, adding “I haven’t talked to him or anything like that but, I’m just saying that from afar, like the year that he had in college, I like what he was able to do. Because it’s not nothing glamoring about Joe Burrow besides he gets everything done.” Sanders thought about what he had said and dialed it back a bit.

He was making a comment about Burrow’s physical attributes but backpedaled and praised the Bengals QBs work ethic. That’s because Sanders thinks Burrow’s approach to football is much more realistic and he relies on hard work. Burrow plays the game with his mind and that’s a quality that Sanders cannot resist liking.

“Joe Burrow is more relatable to me because he wins with his mind. That’s what Joe Burrow and Tom Brady, like…  A lot of guys were able to be more relatable to me personally because they are able to…. We all have similar attributes,” Sanders further revealed.

To put it all under perspective, in the 52-0 blowout win, Sanders threw for 438 yards, 5 touchdowns, and an interception. Now those numbers are quite similar to Burrow’s CFP Championship stats. That’s where he threw for 436 yards, scored 5 passing TDs, and ran for another one. Unfortunately, there is no empirical way to weigh willpower. So we’d take Shedeur Sanders’s words about winning with the power of mind.

But Sanders said something in the video that stuck out like a sore thumb. He said that he admires Lamar Jackson. But there’s something that the Baltimore #8 has that Sanders feels like he doesn’t.

Shedeur Sanders gets real about Lamar Jackson

In Sanders’s eyes, implementing Joe Burrow’s mindset and work ethic is a realistic approach. But he can’t approach the levels of Lamar Jackson even if he tried to. Don’t take it from us, Sanders admitted it himself. Anything “realistic” goes out the window when we’re talking about Lamar Jackson. The Buffs QB tried making his point earlier in the conversation but stopped.

From our interpretation, what he meant to say was that Lamar Jackson is leagues apart from Joe Burrow in terms of physical attributes and that’s what makes Joe Burrow repeatable to people. We’re not quite sure how true this is in real life.

“He [Burrow] just developed a work habit and work ethic that anybody can develop, so he’s realistic versus, like, Lamar Jackson. Like, bro, you know how hard it is to do… I can try whatever I want to try. I could do all these workouts and I can never be Lamar Jackson because he’s special. He has his own category,” Sanders revealed.

#8 is special indeed. Runs the ball, and passes it even better. And not to mention how athletic he is when it comes to breaking tackles and making defenders miss. Maybe Sanders can mix and match the qualities he likes about Burrow and Jackson to convert himself into the ultimate star. Just like something out of Madden.
