Less than a week away from the NFL Combine, the mock drafts are coming in. The players are getting ready to enter the star-studded league. However, as we approach the combine and draft, there are high-profile players like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. Both have earned a reputation for their performance. But the latter is somewhat special among the elite QBs in the draft.

Radio host and NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein discussed the mock draft 1.0 with Mike Garofolo on February 21. He pointed out unique similarities between Sanders and the 49ers QB Brock Purdy and said, “When you look at Shedeur, it’s a little different. He is a game manager on the next level. When you look at his strengths and weaknesses, he’s got poise, he’s got great confidence in the pocket. And then when you watch his accuracy, he’s really really good.” Now that’s interesting.

Brock Purdy’s individual performance has been not among the best signal callers in the league. But in the Kyle Shanahan system, he fits perfectly. Now, that sometimes works against him as many fans claim he doesn’t have the qualities of a starting QB. But often, Purdy has risen above the competition. We saw that in the 2023 season when he took the Niners to the Super Bowl LVIII.

Shedeur Sanders has also played under his father, Deion Sanders, at Colorado Buffaloes. In the 2024 season, Sanders was 4th in passing yards (4,134) with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. But overall, he left a huge impression on his team as their headman.

It’s no secret that Coach Prime will be the main judge of his son’s team. Being a veteran in the league, he knows the intricacies and wants his son to play for the best.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Deion Sanders' influence steer Shedeur away from the Browns' chaotic management?

Deion Sanders might hinder the Browns from getting Shedeur Sanders

The questions are very simple. Deion Sanders wants to see the plan once his son starts playing for any NFL team. Former LB Shawne Merriman appeared on the February 21 episode of the Outkick’s ‘Hot Mic’ show. He opined that Shedeur might not go to the Browns and said, “I think it’s Cleveland, and I think it’s Cleveland for the same reason that Myles Garrett wanted to leave. When you haven’t had a plan for a long time to put guys in places to win, you don’t want your son to go there.

It comes from seeing the decline in the Cleveland franchise. The first issue was with their QB Deshaun Watson as the Browns signed a 5-year $230 million fully guaranteed deal in 2022. Since that contract, Watson has only played 19 games for them in 3 seasons.

Moreover, they don’t seem to have a solid plan. 2023 DPOY Myles Garrett also requested the team to let him move on. While these things have taken a toll, GM Andrew Berry is focused on a rebuild. They choose 2nd in the draft. It’s interesting how things are shaping up.
