There are two Dallas Cowboys. One that had a train wreck of a regular season and the other? Well, it’s still a train wreck, but now it’s post-elimination. No, we’re not talking about their locker room struggles. We’re way past that. We’re talking about their head coach search. The Cowboys are now in the spotlight after Jerry Jones decided to part ways with head coach, Mike McCarthy. With that, JJ and crew are now looking for a new head coach for the vacant post.
But that HC search isn’t as easy as it seems for them. See, the Dallas team had shortlisted some big names for their new leader. You might have heard of the most notable candidates lately. It’s their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, and the Colorado Buffaloes’ HC, Deion Sanders. Now, let’s be real. At this point, Sanders can be the best choice for the Cowboys. Because, of course, he and Jones have a good relationship. But here’s the catch: Shannon Sharpe believes that hiring Coach Prime as the new HC can be the worst decision for Jones.
Uh-huh? That’s another angle in this head coach hunting saga. But why does he think like that? Well, according to the former tight end, “Jerry actually signing Prime (Sanders) would be the worst decision he could make,” Sharpe said while appearing on the Nightcap. “I would love Prime to be the coach to the Dallas Cowboys but I understand the issues that Jerry would have with someone like Deion Sanders coming there, not allowing Prime to have full control of everything, allowing him to pick his staff, allowing him to be the coach that he needs to be for him, to have the success that he needs to have.”

He seems pretty right, isn’t he? Look, the truth is, the Cowboys are Jerry Jones’ empire, and there’s no denying that. But here’s the thing: he wants to run things his way—it’s his “my way or the highway” approach that could brew trouble. In other words, Jerry loves being the center of attention when it comes to the Cowboys. And with Sanders coming to Dallas, that spotlight might slip right out of his hands. “Obviously Jerry also wants to be the center of attention,” Sharpe continued. “When that’s not going to happen once Deion Sanders walks through that building. The Limelight, the attention, is all going to go to him and I think Jerry going to resent that.”
If we’re actually talking about the center of attention, limelight, and all, then let me break that down for you. It actually happened before. When Jimmy Johnson was the head coach of the America’s team, the Cowboys were winning. Nah, scratch that. They went on to win the Super Bowl under his tenure. But guess what? All the attention shifted to Johnson, and suddenly, JJ was left in the shadows.
Now, Shannon Sharpe believes that if Deion Sanders is hired as the next head coach of the America’s team, the same thing is gonna happen. Once Again! Honestly, that’s a big red flag for the team. That said, it would be interesting to see if Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones can hire Coach Prime or not.
Jerry Jones and the head coach turmoil
Two kinds of Dallas Cowboys, huh? Well, as it appears, it has become an internal matter, to be honest. The reason? It’s pretty simple. While Jerry Jones is butting heads to hire Sanders, his son has set his eyes for Brian Schottenheimer for the new head coach of the Dallas team. Now hear this out: the OC has never been a top contender for the head coach role in his entire coaching career. Still, he’s a favorite of Stephen Jones for the job.
You might be thinking, what can be the reason, right? The thing is, Dak Prescott wants the same offensive lines for his team. And with Schottenheimer as their new head coach, Stephen Jones is all in to offer him the same O-line. Honestly, they seem to make some poor decisions and it may cost them another championship in the following season.

I mean, besides Schottenheimer, the Cowboys have interviewed Leslie Frazier, Robert Saleh, and Kellen Moore. That’s it. End of the list. Even Moore had a virtual interview. Talk about serious unseriousness. And out of all these candidates, Stephen wants to go ahead with Schottenheimer.

So, here we are again. Whether it’s Jerry Jones not going for big names due to his personality or Stephen Jones seems locked in on Schottenheimer, even though the guy’s never been a top head coach candidate, one thing’s for sure. The Cowboys are caught in a bit of a mess.
