Will Tyreek Hill's $90 million contract push the Dolphins to a 13-4 record, or is Sharpe dreaming?

Miami Dolphins are a true definition of what the word team means. That’s because the front office, the management, the coaching staff, and the players have been working in tandem for what’s best for the team. Perhaps that’s why they extended Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Jaylen Waddle. Now, they can concentrate on the coming season without any hiccups.

Now, the Dolphins shouldn’t have any excuse to not win championships or have a decent regular season, right? That’s what Shannon Sharpe thinks of all the good news coming out of this Florida team. Also, Tyreek Hill just became the No. 1 player in the league, so that speaks volumes about the kind of roster Miami has. Will they prevail this season?

“The Dolphins have locked up their team’s future for the foreseeable future,” said Sharpe on Nightcap. “Tyreek is under contract till 2026, Tua is under contract till 2028, Jaylen Waddle is under contract till 2028. The Dolphins finished in the NFL top 100 with eight players making the list, the second most of any team. Terron Armstead with 67. Jordan Poyer with 65, Jaylen Waddle (63), Bradley Chubb (62), Raheem Mostert (60), Tua (36), Jalen Ramsey (25) and Tyreek Hill (1). That’s too much talent to get knocked out in the first round……With that kind of talent, that says you have to be 13-4.”

There’s no doubt that the Dolphins have an immensely talented roster in their hands. But the only problem is that Tua doesn’t handle cold games well. Tua Tagovailoa is 0–6 when the temperature peaks at 45 degrees or lower. Playoffs are all about the November, December, and January games where the Dolphins will have to battle teams like the Bills, the Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs, and even the Cincinnati Bengals.

Let’s not talk about Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill because they put up phenomenal stats last year. It’s Jaylen Waddle who has been putting up 1,000-yard seasons in the last 3 years. Raheem Mostert has had a career revival since he joined the Dolphins; Bradley Chubb managed to get 11 sacks last year; and Jordan Poyer recorded 67 tackles with the Bills last year.

The talent is there, for sure; all we’re waiting for is the execution of that talent. We know Tyreek Hill will be the best this year, now that he has a rejuvenated drive to target the 2K goal that he set for himself earlier. And also, because the Miami Dolphins restructured his deal.

Have an interesting take?

Earlier, Mike Florio mentioned how Hill’s deal was “phony” because it was so backloaded. Now the Dolphins have fixed it by restructuring his contract to a 3-year, $90 million deal with $65 million guaranteed. This brings Hill to amass a total of $106.5 million in guaranteed money over 4 years.

Also, it just so happens that Hill is now the best player in the league. Voted for by his peers, Hill became the only wide receiver in the league to secure a No. 1 spot in the NFL top 100 list. Mike McDaniel was happy when he found out about Tyreek Hill’s new feat. However, he was not surprised.

“I may be biased but it’s such an honor to having all your peers recognize what type of player you are,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “There are a lot of really good players so it’s a tremendous honor but it’s also not a surprise.”

Tua Tagovailoa is also making $53.1 million in average salary after his new deal. Hence, there’s no reason for the team to lack this year. Will they ball out in 2024?
