“An ugly season for the Dolphins just got worse,” is what ESPN wrote of Tyler Huntley’s Dolphins performance at the Hard Rock Stadium in Tua Tagovailoa’s absence. For now, Miami fans can do nothing but punch the air knowing that a player of Tyreek Hill’s caliber didn’t have more than 23 yards and didn’t score a touchdown against a team like the Titans.

Huntley had a really bad field day, but this might have not been his fault. For starters, he’s been hurled into the front lines with little to no time to learn McDaniel’s offense. From that standpoint, it’s still astonishing to see Huntley come out of the game without throwing a pick and scoring a rushing touchdown. But that’s not enough to convince Shannon Sharpe.

The HOFer tight end wasn’t giving into the narrative that Tagovailoa’s replacement would do a better job at making do with the elite skill position players that he has in his arsenal. Sharpe’s analogy was somewhat a fitting one as he pointed out that Huntley having an “AK” in his hand would do no good if he didn’t know what to do with it.

The host of Nightcap mistakenly assumed the Turk, Yusuf Dikec, to be representing Israel but mentioned that he didn’t need “fancy equipment” to get a silver medal in the Olympics. Well, in simple words, Sharpe believes that Huntley could have done a better job than throwing for 96 yards and completing 14 of his 22 passes against the Tennessee Titans.

“You see, it’s not the equipment, it’s the person holding the equipment,” Sharpe said on Nightcap. Per the former NFLer, “A AK ain’t no good if the guy don’t know how to shoot it. A Bazooka, M16, a Tec or whatever type of artillery you want to use is only as accurate as the person that’s firing it. And right now, Huntley can’t fire even though he has max weapons. He has weapons of mass destruction.”

Well, the analogy hit hard because none of Miami’s heavy hitters had more than 36 receiving yards or a touchdown to show for it. In fact, Miami only scored one touchdown throughout the night which came late in the fourth quarter. However, there’s no reason to be so tough on Tyler Huntley because it was his debut game with the Miami Dolphins and he had just two weeks to prepare.

The Dolphins are already down 0-3 and it’s their worst start since McDaniel took over the team. Miami’s dreams of making it to the playoffs are already taking a hit in Tagovailoa’s absence. The QB1 will be out for at least two more games, per sources. Miami having 77 yards under their belt by the end of the first half was a hard pill to swallow for anyone but the Titans fans. Huntley tried to make up for it by adding 87 yards in the last quarter, but that clearly wasn’t enough to win the game.

Moreover, this game ended with an injury to Jaelan Phillips, who was ruled out of the game. His status in the next game against the Patriots is unclear as of now. Aside from all this, ESPN pointed out an interesting fact from Next Gen Stats. It states that the Titans put a stop of 8 of Miami’s 17 rushing attempts aimed at their running backs. The Titans’ defense appeared dominating when De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright came out of the game with 47 yards over 19 carries combined.

So, what does Mike McDaniel have to say about the disaster at the Hard Rock Stadium? “Ultimately, there’s nothing good about this situation right now in terms of where our team needs to be,” McDaniel said. “We need to do enough to win a football game against any opponent, and right now, that’s not the case. We have to fix that fast.”

The Dolphins’ defense allowed the Titans to gain 244 total yards and two total touchdowns, hanging up 31 points on the away team. Clearly, they have to sort out their defensive play-calling as well. Unlike certain teams. Miami doesn’t have a bye week coming up and they will be playing against the New England Patriots in less than a week.
