Is Aaron Rodgers' legendary status fading as the Jets' season spirals out of control?

Things aren’t going as planned for Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets. Following their loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team’s future seems to be hanging by a thread. Overall, the team’s performance on Sunday was quite underwhelming. The veteran QB did show some sparks of his true prowess, but he wasn’t consistent throughout the game. Former NFLer Shannon Sharpe took a dig at Rodgers questioning his NFL future following a lack of consistency in his game.

In the latest episode of his podcast ‘Nightcap’, Sharpe shared his concern over 40-year-old QBs’ lack of consistency. Talking about it he said that Rodgers isn’t the same he once was, pointing at his inconsistent performances in the past seven weeks. Sharpe said, “We’re used to seeing Aaron Rodgers play great for the entirety of the game. He is not one of these guys that played a moment here or moment there. That’s Aaron Rodgers, right? He’s historically great, transcendently great. But he hasn’t been what they need him to be.”

To be fair, this is true. This season hasn’t been good for Rodgers. It seems age is catching up to the former Packers’ QB. He has completed 158 of 256 passes, with just 10 TDs, and 7 interceptions for 1663 passing yards. Many assumed that by getting back with his ex-Packers teammate Davante Adams, things might start happening for Rodgers and the Jets. However, it didn’t seem to be the case on Sunday. The Jets managed to cover just 323 yards with two turnovers and 17 1st Downs. The team was second best in possession game as well as they clocked just 27:51, compared to the Steelers’ 32:09.

After Robert Saleh’s sacking, the team’s working under interim HC Jeff Ulbrich. However, things haven’t been positive for the interim HC. Now Ulbrich surely needs to re-assess his options, bolster the loose ends, and find a way for the Jets to get out of their current losing streak in week 8 when they face the New England Patriots at the Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers has opened up about the Jets current 2-5 record after the loss against the Steelers on Sunday. Things haven’t been the way the team would have expected in the past few weeks as they have lost back-to-back four games.

In the post-game interview, Rodgers talked about the Jets’ lackluster performance this season. Talking about it, he said that each of those four losses came in different ways but now they have “got to figure it out”. The 40-year-old further added, “We’ve got to somehow keep the belief in the locker room and start a run. You can’t win 10 in a row unless you’ve won the first one.”

Have an interesting take?

Their last victory came against the Pats at the Metlife stadium over a month ago. The Jets’ defense has been leaky, while their attack hasn’t been that effective either. The team is standing at a “now-or-never” moment. As they move forward into the regular season, they need to find a way to sustain lethal attacks and break through fortified defenses if they want to make it to the postseason.
