Shane Steichen knows that building a contender isn’t just about landing big-name stars—it’s about finding the right pieces that fit. Last season, his Colts showed flashes of promise, but inconsistency and depth issues kept them from breaking through. Now, with the 2025 season looming, the franchise faces a pivotal moment. Some familiar faces have departed, new ones are on the way, and Steichen isn’t waiting around for the market to dictate his next move.

Indianapolis has already made several free-agent splashes, but their latest signing signals something more than just a roster tweak—it’s a calculated step toward reshaping a unit that desperately needs reinforcement. And while Daniel Jones‘ deal has dominated headlines, Steichen’s next move could prove just as significant.

If you have been following the Indianapolis Colts, you might know that their defensive line is facing some serious gaps. Steichen and the franchise bid goodbye to Raekwon Davis and Taven Bryan this offseason. That means, in total, the HC lost 689 snaps from the rotation. But now the question is: what’s next for the team?

We all know that the Colts can improve vastly in many ways to make sure that, in 2025, their season stretches to the playoffs. The team needs to end their 5-year drought. And the preparation for it has already started, as he has been eyeing up free agents in the market.

According to ESPN Senior NFL insider, Adam Schefter on X, “Free-agent DT Neville Gallimore reached agreement tonight on a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts.” This isn’t a first time move for the player. The former third-round pick’s journey hasn’t been easy.

Drafted by the Cowboys in 2020, he became a free agent last year. The Dolphins picked him up in March, but by August, they let him go. The Rams then gave him a chance, and guess what? Neville Gallimore made the most of it—appearing in 14 games with four starts. He didn’t register a sack in the regular season, but when the playoffs came, the man flipped the switch.

In just two postseason games, he racked up 2.5 sacks. This proves he can deliver when it matters the most. And it’s quite possible that this ability turned heads of Shane Steichen and the team. Especially, when the Colts have defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who might be able to develop Gallimore in 2025.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Daniel Jones outshine Anthony Richardson and become the Colts' savior this season?

Have an interesting take?

Along with him, Shane Steichen’s team has also signed three more free agents this time, including Daniel Jones.

Shane Steichen just wants his quarterback to be perfect!

Before signing Neville Gallimore, the Colts also added safety Cam Bynum to a 4-year, $60 million deal. The safety seemed unlikely to return to the Vikings because the team already paid handsome money to Theo Jackson. The athlete has till now recorded eight interceptions, 28 total passes defended, three forced fumbles, and over 340 tackles in 65 games with his former team. Next in line, Shane Steichen signed cornerback Charvarius Ward to a 3-year, $60 million deal. He registered 213 tackles, 41 passes defensed, and six interceptions in 46 games with the 49ers. But the most interesting addition of this year in Indianapolis is perhaps Daniel Jones.

According to reports, Shane Steichen signed Daniel Jones to a 1-year $14 million deal. The QB was a long-time starter for the Giants, before an explosive exit saw him mingling with the Vikings practice squad halfway through 2024. Now as Jones enters Indy, he will be tough competition for Anthony Richardson. We all know that last season, Richardson couldn’t deliver his best and was eventually benched for the rest of the season. But he is determined to come back stronger, and has been taking classes from the MVP, Josh Allen. It will be interesting to see who wins this QB1 battle in the Colts—Richardson or Jones.
