Just like Cam Newton! The scouts compared Anthony Richardson to Newton in 2023 because of his physical attributes and playing style. Many hailed him as a promising quarterback of the league. Hence, the Indianapolis Colts drafted him to be their new iconic quarterback. But things started falling apart soon. In the early phase of his NFL career, the Colts were impressive, winning 9 games in total in the QB’s rookie year. But an injury struck, leaving him to wrap up the season. Richardson then returned in 2024, but nothing was as usual.

Anthony Richardson struggled with injuries, inconsistent plays, and even checking himself out of the game due to “tiredness.” Because of all this, coach Shane Steichen shifted him to the bench and allowed Joe Flacco to play. All the drama has now fumed many analysts, including NFL reporter Kevin Clark. According to him, they could have given Anthony Richardson more opportunities in the league. But coach Shane Steichen deprived him of that, accusingly saving his job. Is it?

Well, Clark feels so! Accordingly, “They’ve (Colts) bungled the situation, and right now, I’m afraid it’s beyond repair. You took one of the most athletic quarterbacks we’ve ever seen at the Combine. Let him play for a month, he gets hurt.” Getting games remained an issue for Richardson. He missed 17 games out of 34, with various injuries dampening his progress and then getting the bench. For a player to remain competitive, you need the trust of your coaches and get going. Sadly, that’s not the case if you see the clear picture.

“You let him play for another month, when he gets healthy, you bench him for Joe Flacco, who, by the way, was supposed to steady the ship. He steadied nothing, and then all of a sudden, you say, oh, we’re going to bring in another guy,” mentioned Kevin Clark.

This approach didn’t sit well with Clark and the Colts in general. This is because “You have to give someone like Anthony Richardson a long runway to develop. They haven’t done that. All of a sudden, Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen are trying to save their jobs.

The player managed 1814 passing yards and 8 TDs. Sure, they are not extraordinary numbers, but the boy can play!

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Colts fail Anthony Richardson, or is he just not cut out for the NFL?

Have an interesting take?

Just a day ago, GM Ballard said Richardson will have to compete for the QB 1 role now. Why? Because he thinks “that’s good for the team, and I think it’s good for Anthony.” Really?

As Clark pointed out, the Colts will now move to get a veteran for their team. So, “this is the wrong situation from the get-go. Anthony Richardson failed. That doesn’t mean he’s a great quarterback, but he was failed in this situation. The whole thing is a football tragedy. The whole thing is football malpractice.

But things have concluded. There’s no turning back. However, there is one thing that Anthony Richardson could get for himself–The QB1 role. And he has already started working on it.

Anthony Richardson is learning from the MVP!

Anthony Richardson had a rough season last year. He was benched and reportedly viewed as an “irresponsible” quarterback. But it seems the 22-year-old isn’t moving backwards now. Instead, he is eager to learn and be great like many other active players. How? By learning from the MVP himself.

According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network (by a Colts Content X channel), “Anthony Richardson will be working out with Bills quarterback, Josh Allen, this offseason.” Wow!

That shows how much dedication and hard work the young QB has. With this, it seems he is shutting down all the doubts of the backlashers. Not only that! As per the post, “Richardson was already working with Allen’s throwing coach, Chris Hess, this offseason.

Much like Allen, Richardson, too, has great arm strength. In addition, about three months ago, the MVP said he is a big fan of the young QB. So, probably, the two might like each other’s company while learning and growing together.
