“Our absolute goal next year is to win our division.” These were Sean Payton’s words at his season-ending press conference after their exit at the hands of the Bills in the Wild Card round. Payton is confident that his young squad can go to the next level, but he has a challenge on his hands. The draft will be pivotal to shape the team’s future, and on top of that, a whirlwind of changes in their backroom staff have to be taken into account. The Broncos have lost several coaches to opportunities at other teams, and Payton has seen no less than 15 changes to his coaching staff. It includes eight new hires and several in-house promotions, and it appears he might not be done yet.
If you watched the 2013 NFL Combine, there is a good chance that you picked out a 300-pound lineman who blazed through the 40-yard dash. This guy would turn out to be the third-round pick of the Saints in 2013 and locked down that blind side like a vault, making it look easy. Even Sean Payton, then-head coach of the Saints, was not ready to trade him at any cost. “There’s not a left tackle I would trade him for in the league. I really like the way he’s progressed,” he said. He was referring to Terron Armstead, who hung up his cleats after 12 years in the NFL at just 33. Well, if you’re thinking that Armstead’s going to hit a few golf rounds or take a booth job, think again.
He’s already getting calls for coaching a team, and we’re talking about Payton’s Denver Broncos, folks.

Recently, Terron stopped by Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show, where he was asked if he had a message from Payton. His response? Well, the Saints’ legend straight-up admitted that the Broncos’ HC wants to work with him again, and this time it might be in a coaching capacity. “Yeah, he (Payton) called me yesterday,” Armstead said. “And he wants me to work with him or for him in whatever capacity. So we have to have another conversation. He didn’t tell exactly tell me what he want me to do, but he called me.” After calling time on his career, he received love and support from the players and the coaches alike. Of course, Payton was one of them.
“Congratulations (Terron Armstead) on an amazing career! Proud to have been a part of your journey. Great player, teammate, and leader, and tremendous person,” Payton said. Terron spent his whole nine seasons in New Orleans under Sean Payton.
Terron appeared in 97 games in the regular season and featured in nine playoff contests, earning three Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro Second Team selection in 2018 under Payton at the Saints.

One of the best offensive tackles during his prime, Armstead carries a wealth of experience and could bring that to Denver, particularly in mentoring the offensive line. Payton has 11 offensive linemen signed for the new season, and Armstead’s firsthand experience with Payton’s coaching philosophy and system could facilitate a smoother implementation of offensive schemes, benefiting the team’s cohesion and effectiveness. But the big question: is he going to accept Payton’s proposal?
What’s your perspective on:
Terron Armstead to coaching—will he bring the same fire to the Broncos as he did on the field?
Have an interesting take?
Well, that’s the tricky part. Because when Payton called him to join the Broncos, Terron hung up the call, saying, ” I told him, ‘Sean, get off my phone.'” Guess, Payton will have to wait for an answer from his former player, but it won’t be a surprise if Terron Armstead and Sean Payton start working together. If a deal is reached, it would be fascinating to see how things work out.
Meanwhile, Payton’s starting QB, Bo Nix, is out there making waves in the Denver community with his offseason activities.

Sean Payton’s QB is up to something this off-season
You know that feeling when a rookie quarterback steps onto the field and immediately makes you sit up and take notice? That’s exactly what Bo Nix did for the Broncos in 2024. From the get-go, he was turning heads and making plays that had fans buzzing. The former first-round pick led the Broncos to a 10-7 record and finally ended their eight-year playoff drought.
And oh, along the way, he also racked up some serious stats—3,775 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and even a few Rookie of the Week awards. But as thrilling as his rookie season was in Denver, his current off-season is giving him the same energy. Let’s cut to the chase. A couple of weeks ago, the second-year QB visited some ailing kids at the local children’s hospital.
The MLFootball shared the news on their official ‘X’ handle, writing, “WHOLESOME: #Broncos star rookie quarterback Bo Nix surprised a young kid in his hospital bed at a local children’s Hospital.” Well, he was already a fan favorite in Denver, and these actions further endear him to the fans.

This also caught the Broncos’ ownership’s attention. “I think that’s great for him, just for the fans to see him out and about in the community and [he is] starting to get involved in some community efforts,” Broncos’ owner/CEO Greg Penner said of Nix. “I know he did some hospital visits, and he’s going to be hosting a youth camp.” On top of that, the team’s owner also reflected on the QB’s focus on football, as well along with his efforts for the community.
“He’s totally focused on football and understands there’s some other things that go with it. He’s a worker and going to continue to improve,” Penner added. After having a strong rookie season, Sean Payton and Greg Penner are surely hoping for another great season from Nix. After all, the Broncos are still looking for another Super Bowl.
