The Rams fans would be keeping a careful eye on their team’s recent experiment. After all, even after reaching the NFL Divisional Round, it appears that the team is on track to make big moves. Rumors suggest that these adjustments may involve trades of big names like Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp. Now that’s a curious move. Both players had significant roles in the team’s performance this year. And due to that, Sean McVay is also standing in the way of this trade happening. Uh-oh, the coach doesn’t want his team to break.
Sean McVay, the Rams’ 23rd overall coach, has had little interest in these trades. On top of that, certain sources have plainly indicated that the HC may be aiming to prevent Matthew Stafford’s trade from happening at all. The 37-year-old veteran quarterback has been an excellent on-field leader. And McVay appears to appreciate it. On the other hand, there have been whispers that the former Super Bowl winner could join the Giants if trade talks continue. But why that New York?

The New York Giants generated a lot of noise on social media after hiring Chad Hall as their quarterback coach. You may have already heard that Hall is Matthew Stafford’s brother-in-law. This provides the Rams quarterback with a familiar atmosphere to which he may look forward. However, McVay’s choice not to trade him to any team for the time being could lead to the Giants signing some other quarterback. But, there’s another major twist.

Stafford, too, is looking to leave the Rams, which is why trade talks started in the first place. In 2022, the quarterback received a four-year contract extension worth $160 million. This means his base compensation would be an amazing $12.5 million, along with a great roaster bonus. Jeez! That’s a lot of money.
While McVay’s decision will eventually impact Stafford’s trade from the team’s perspective. If the quarterback reveals that he wants to leave the team in any way, this trade might happen very soon. The team would like to complete it before they have to pay the roaster bonuses for this year. But wait, won’t Cooper Kupp also receive the roaster bonus this year? So, will he get traded or not?
Did Matthew Stafford’s trade cancellation boost Cooper Kupp’s trade chances?
Some would know that the Rams will pay out roster bonuses on March 19, 2025. And, as the team is looking to trade, it appears that they want to do it before the benchmark date. This means they have 34 days to make a decision regarding Cooper Kupp. The WR will turn 32 this year, which is why the Rams are hoping to move him.
On the other side, Kupp has a $7.5 million roster bonus. This incentive is actually higher than Matthew Stafford’s, who receives $5 million. This is a major reason why the Rams want the trade to happen fast. And based on the current rumors, the team that can accept this move is pretty predictable. Did you guess it? Maybe yes. It’s the New York Giants.

The Giants may prefer Kupp, but they will need some cash options. And, if the sources are correct, the Rams are also looking to help in this circumstance. It appears that the WR can be traded away with the use of financial incentives. Man! This means Kupp will receive the fortune for which he first signed.
Things can take a dramatic turn from here, so keep a watch out for what the Rams may be looking to accomplish with these transactions. Stay tuned for further developments.
