Well, Sean McDermott is superstitious! The NFL playoffs are coming soon, and the fans and teams are preparing themselves for the thriller. Like others, McDermott, too, is trying to keep everything positive despite Sunday’s loss against the New England Patriots. Nevertheless, the Buffalo Bills’ coach is more concerned about his players.
When asked if the Bills were entering the playoffs with a clean bill of health, Sean McDermott didn’t miss a beat – or a chance to dodge the jinx. “I’ll knock on wood because sometimes things show up the next day. I feel like [we did]. Let me just knock on wood to make sure. I’ll know a little more tomorrow.”Nothing like a little superstition to keep the injury report quiet – and the football gods happy.
Sean McDermott doubled down, saying, “It’s good. You want to be as healthy as you can going into the playoffs and as strong as you can be.” Translation – he’s breathing a little easier knowing his key players (and the rest of the squad) are in one piece. Now, the goal is simple – stay that way and let the playoff run begin.

In the previous week, before the Bills were heading to Sunday’s game, coach Sean McDermott released an injury report for the Week 18 game. He mentioned that LB Terrel Bernard (quad) is out of the game, as he was limited on Thursday and Friday after Wednesday’s absence. But while informing the reporters, he also made sure that Bernard would be back in the wild-card game.
McDermott’s feeling pretty good about his squad’s health as the playoffs approach – and, naturally, he’s knocking on wood like it’s a pre-game ritual. Damar Hamlin’s rib injury, Cam Lewis’s shoulder, and Curtis Samuel’s rib all had them limited in practice, but no worries – they’re all expected to suit up. Taylor Rapp, recovering from a neck injury, is back at it, full throttle. McDermott’s all about being as healthy as possible, but he’s not taking any chances. After all, with the playoffs on the line, a little superstition goes a long way!
Now that Josh Allen and the rest of the Bills are ready for interesting battles, their head coach has a message for them.
Sean McDermott has one approach for his men!
The Bills lost to the Patriots 23-16. But it doesn’t matter. They have already clinched the playoff spot. And for this round, as mentioned above, they need to be healthy all the time. But there’s also one thing that coach Sean McDermott wants from his players. What is it?

Sean McDermott wants his locker room to follow a one-at-a-time approach. Now you must be guessing what’s that? Well, let’s keep it easy for you. The 50-year-old HC wants Josh Allen and the rest to approach the playoffs with one game at a time. Obviously, their ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl, but they are going with the moment approach.
It is evident in what McDermott said in the post-game presser – “We got to take it one game at a time, right. Everything is earned and there’s nothing given in the playoffs and you’re going against the best every week, so we start with one week and really one day at a time as we get back in here and find out when we play and take it one one day at a time.” No doubt that the Bills are one of the strong contenders to win the Super Bowl this year. With 13 wins and just 4 losses in the season, they have already proved that the Bills are strong this season. And now that the team is healthy, it’s definitely a cherry on the top of the cake for them.
