“The best I’ve seen him play… He’s hard to stop. People have tried. They’ll keep trying.” That’s what the Buffalo Bills head coach, Sean McDermott said about Josh Allen’s performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. We thought the Lions were going to give Buffalo a tough time, but that didn’t turn out to be true.

That’s a bold claim indeed. But there’s just a slight problem. After throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns, Allen felt like he needed to get checked out. That’s because the QB got hit multiple times. At one time, we thought we were going to see the whole Trevor Lawrence scenario once again. But everything is good with Allen and he hasn’t suffered any major injuries.

Per Jeff Darlington of ESPN, “Josh Allen went to the x-ray room just outside the Bills’ locker room after the game, but he just said he simply wanted peace of mind after taking a “funky fall.” No reason for concern after the x-rays were taken. No broken bones.” Isn’t it unbelievable how Allen can still stand up after taking those massive hits?

Jeff Darlington’s tweet didn’t mention that Allen was checking his right shoulder after the 48-42 win. Two hits significantly shook him up; once, Lions DE Joe Paschal hit his chest. Lions LBs Ben Niemann and Jack Campbell took him down, causing him to fall on his right shoulder.

Then there was the time when Allen slid on the ground and a Lions defender tackled him like Azeez Al-Shaair did Trevor Lawrence. The hit significantly impacted Josh Allen after the play, and surprisingly, the refs threw no flag. That was clearly a late hit. How does Allen even survive these hits every week? It’s insane!

Josh Allen's resilience is unmatched, but are the Bills risking too much with his play style?

“Just took a funky fall. More peace of mind than anything,” Allen said in his post-game press conference. He also added, “Everything checked so I’m good,” mentioning that he doesn’t experience pain while throwing now. However, the Buffalo Bills quarterback will be cautious going forward. The Bills head coach has never seen something like this coming from Allen. In fact, he didn’t stop singing the QBs praises after the game.

“It’s the best I’ve seen him play, and I’m not surprised. When he sets a goal for himself for the team, he’s hard to stop. People have tried, and they’ll keep trying,” Sean McDermott said. “That’s what’s we do in this league. And I mean, it’s just incredible, incredible performance, week after week. What more can you say. We’re watching an incredible player play incredibly consistent week after week, and I’ll let you guys fill in the rest of the sentence,” McDermott said in the post-game presser.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s go through a quick recap of Allen’s performance at Ford Field and check out how he disrupted the Detroit Lions.

Josh Allen owned the Motor City on SNF

Again, 362 passing yards, and 2 passing TDs paired with 68 rushing yards and two rushing TDs; what more can you ask from a quarterback? Allen took the fate of his team into his own hands early on in the game. He rushed for two touchdowns in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Detroit stayed scoreless in Q1. However, the Motor City team replied with a TD from Tim Patrick in the opening of the second quarter.

After Tim Patrick’s TD, Bills RB James Cook took the matters in his own hands and ran it in the endzone for a 6-yard TD. Detroit was trailing 7-21 at this point. Not long after, Dan Skipper closed the second quarter with a 9-yard TD pass from Jared Goff, closing the lead to 14-21. Things really picked up in the second half, though.

The Bills started their second half with back-to-back TDs from James Cook and Khalil Shakir. However, Jared Goff wasn’t having it because soon after, he followed with a 68-yard TD pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. Khalil Shakir and James Cook widened the lead so much that the Lions disappeared from sight. By the end of the third quarter, Detroit was 21-35.

Jared Goff switched gears in the last quarter, but it was probably too late. Q4 started with Bills kicker Tyler Bass’ FG, adding 3 more points to the board (21-38). The Detroit QB threw a 12-yard TD pass to Jahmyr Gibbs, and Josh Allen responded with a 5-yard TD pass to Ray Davis. Then, Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs took the onus on himself again and ran it on for a 1-yard TD, bringing up the score to 35-45.

Then, it was Tyler Bass’ turn to add more points to the Bills lead and Goff followed with another touchdown pass to Jameson Williams. At that point 12 seconds remained in the game and it was obviously too late to get more points.

But something interesting happened on Sunday. According to CBS, “Not only did the two teams combine for the highest scoring game in the NFL this season, but they also combined to make NFL history with a final score that’s never been seen before.”

It’s crazy how Jared Goff can win a game after throwing 5 interceptions, but can’t overpower the Bills with a 5 TD performance. Josh Allen is a disruptor and destroyed the Lions’ 10-game win streak. He did the same thing to the Chiefs, ruining their 9-game win streak. Safe to say that the battle of the QBs didn’t disappoint.
