Newly minted MVP Josh Allen might be asking for some more money. According to a report from Dan Graziano, the Buffalo Bills’s leader, who is scheduled to average about $32 million per season, has a goal. The goal is to increase his annual salary – something close to Joe Burrow’s benchmark deal. So, you never know what’s coming up next for Allen. However, till then, we all know that the QB is signed with the franchise through the 2028 season. But have you ever imagined what will happen in the Bills after him? What will the status of the team, especially in the quarterback position?
Josh Allen is 28 years old now. We all know he still has a lot more seasons under his NFL career. But are the backend players ready for any upcoming important games? Are they and Allen mixing up well? That’s an interesting question, isn’t it? Well, a curious reporter asked the same to the HC at Monday’s NFL combine press conference.
To begin with the answer, Sean McDermott surprisingly took his name as the quarterback in the team. To the people who are unaware, McDermott himself was a star quarterback at LaSalle College High School outside Philadelphia in the early 1990s. Hence, while giving his answer, Josh Allen’s coach joked that he might even throw his name into the mix. But on a serious note, he emphasized, “We’ve got a really good group in there. It’s a fun group, they work well together.”

McDermott didn’t stop there! He explained his point further about the quarterbacks in the room as well as threw some light on Josh Allen’s career growth too. The HC added, “That’s huge for Josh and Josh’s continued growth. And you want to be happy when you’re coming to work every day, driving down that driveway at one Bills. And when you like who you’re going into the room with, that’s a big piece. Now having said all that, you got to be able to play and get the job done as well and I think….that’s going to be a very intentional part of our offseason part, of our spring part, of training camp to see ‘hey when you get in the game, what does it look like and how good can we be at that position.’”
Apart from Josh Allen, Sean McDermott’s Bills have Mitchell Trubisky and Mike White as the backup quarterbacks. After calling himself another QB, McDermott also sometimes pitches about the fifth one in the QB room as a light-hearted joke. But all these never create differences in the QB room of the Bills. It tells how Josh Allen is seen as a leader as well as how the entire quarterback squad lives and grows together without any complaints or ego. However, when it comes to playing as a starter, beyond Allen, others still need to prove themselves. But all in all, life post-Josh Allen is good and secure as a team, and McDermott is happy about it.
Besides this, there’s one other thing that Sean McDermott is happy about.
Josh Allen’s teammate James Cook is a rising star?
No doubt, Josh Allen and the Bills had a great season campaign this year. They have now moved one inch closer to win that hump in the league. But as their journey ended in the AFC Championship, Sean McDermott’s team will try it once again. And for that, the Bills are intended to run back the season with a similar roster in 2025 – likely keeping James Cook too in the team.

RB Cook, who had rushed for 1000 yards for the second straight season, is likely to sign with the franchise once again. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal and as obvious, the reports asked Sean McDermott about his new pay. To which, the HC replied, “When you are a coach, and you are on the field with these players, and you are in the meetings and you are watching them develop on the field, off the field, [Cook] is one of the examples of the joys that come with coaching. Watching a young man develop in both of those areas… It’s a great feeling as a coach to watch a young man do what he did.. the business part is going to take care of itself.”
As per the reports, Josh Allen’s teammate is seeking $15 million per year before the season starts. If this happens, he will become the league’s second-highest-paid running back after Christian McCaffrey ($16M a year). So, it remains to be seen what will happen in this interesting offseason.
