Josh Allen is ready for the second title conference game appearance of his NFL career. He and his Buffalo Bills defeated the Baltimore Ravens on Monday with just 2 points in a very close and intense game. Now that the Highmark team is heading to Arrowhead for another thriller of the year, Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott pointed out some of the coaching issues with the team.
During a recent talk on Monday with the reporters, Sean McDermott was asked about the current status of cornerback Taron Johnson, who dislocated his shoulder in the divisional round win. To which McDermott replied, “It came out OK, a little bit sore, but, but all in all, ok.” Johnson is a key player for the Bills’ defense who recorded 65 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in the regular season. His absence might cause a problem for Sean McDermott and Josh Allen’s team. But there are more things which the Bills are worried about.
While explaining the main concerns after reviewing the game film of Monday, Sean McDermott pointed out, “More so than anything, I would say fundamentals and execution. It usually starts there and yeah, it’s continued areas of emphasis for us throughout our week this week.” In 2017, Dermott emphasized that – “I’m a big believer in fundamentals and techniques. I’m a big believer in character.” Now, after eight years, Dermott’s major concern is the fundamentals and execution?

Well, Sean McDermott’s late clock management is arguably a major concern for the team’s growth. This was also evident in Monday’s game when they had the opportunity to control the clock for 31 minutes. They played big. For instance, when just over three minutes were left, the head coach decided to opt for a field goal for the team that was near the end zone. This resulted in giving the Ravens one last chance to make a comeback. But it was arguably Mark Andrews’s failure that stopped them from improving their points.
However, that’s one thing that the Bills are more focused on. Hence, the reporter asked Sean McDermott about the team’s emphasis on ball security, noting how well the team, especially Josh Allen, handled it during the game. The head coach agreed, highlighting that protecting the football is a core belief in their approach. He even acknowledged that it’s easier said than done, given how strong the defenses are in the league. Therefore, as per Dermott, maintaining this focus is crucial every single day to avoid any mishaps during their scoring and possession of the ball.
Now, with the same approach, Sean McDermott and Josh Allen’s squad are moving ahead to play the AFC Championship against the Chiefs. But before that, the head coach has a message for Andy Reid’s team.
Sean McDermott is excited to beat Andy Reid’s Chiefs?
After the Bills defeated the Ravens, Sean McDermott was asked about his plan for their next rival, the Chiefs, and their coach, Andy Reid. And guess what? The 50-year-old is “Looking forward to it.” While addressing the situation, McDermott mentioned, “Great challenge, you know, again, another great team. Certainly well coached! Coach Reid does a phenomenal job. He and his staff. Yeah, tough challenge.” Sean McDermott subtly warned the Chiefs and the coach expressing that although it’s a challenge, they are ready for the battle.

No doubt, both teams are strong enough to win the Super Bowl. However, only one can be lucky this time. So, it remains to be seen who wins this one. Until then, McDermott and even quarterback Josh Allen too are preparing themselves for the rivalry, as Allen expressed, “I can’t tell you [how the rematch will be different]. I just know we’re going to work hard. We’re going to have a heck of a week. Enjoy this one tonight and turn our attention to the Chiefs tomorrow. We know what they are. They’re the perennial of what you want to be in the NFL. Someone’s you’ve got to beat them to get past them.”
The Chiefs vs Bills is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m. ET!
