Okay, the most David Fincher kinda plot twist just happened, folks. You know how Mike McCarthy was shown the way out of the Dallas Cowboys‘ building recently, right? Well, Jerry Jones was like Usain Bolt with his decision and already gave the crown to someone else. And he didn’t even look far ahead because the new HC of the Cowboys is Brian Schottenheimer. No, you’re not reading it wrong. The offensive coordinator, who was under Mike’s shadow for years, went ahead and got the gig. An absolute shocker, ain’t it? It’s literally the talk of the town right now, as many consider this one of the riskiest moves a team has ever made.

For a team that just went 7-10, you’d think Jerry would’ve bet his money on someone with way more head coaching experience. But hey, maybe it won’t be that bad. Quandre Diggs, who worked with Brian Schottenheimer back in Seattle, has been pretty vocal about it recently. On the latest episode of the DLLS Cowboys podcast, the host asked him about Brian’s discipline. “I mean, he did address those things on Mondays. Offensive, penalties, things like that. He addressed them in a meeting in front of everybody. That was from Russ to DK to Tyler Lockett to Chris Carson to different things like that—fumbles, holdings. He addressed all those things, and guys understood it.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones risking the Cowboys' future with Brian Schottenheimer, or is it a genius move?

Have an interesting take?

Alright, so Diggs just gave us a little peek into Schottenheimer’s coaching style, but the big question remains—does that really mean he’s ready to take the Cowboys to the next level? To begin with, Brian has always been seen as a solid offensive mind. However, leading an entire team is a whole different ballgame. On one hand, some praise his ability to scheme an offense effectively. On the other hand, others question his adaptability under pressure.

Moreover, his track record as an OC has been a mix of highs and lows. And let’s not forget—this is America’s Team we’re talking about. The spotlight burns brighter here than anywhere else, which means every move he makes will be under a microscope. Look, we are not denying the fact that he’s the reason why Russell Wilson threw 106 touchdown passes in Seattle, and running back Chris Carson pocketed two 1,000-yard seasons under Brian Schottenheimer. To prove his worth, he will need to bring that into the players of Dallas too.

Brian expressed his feelings towards the players in the recent press conference: “It means the world to me that you guys are here. And I can’t wait to do this alongside you, to get to know you guys at an even deeper level. I want to get to know your hearts. I want to capture your hearts and let you guys get a great feel from me. But thank you for being here.” It’s clear that he’s ready to roll, but will he be able to keep himself locked in when there are so many doubters lurking around?

Why is Jerry facing backlash for hiring Brian Schottenheimer as Cowboys HC?

Almost as if Jerry Jones is playing Russian roulette with his Brian Schottenheimer decision. Or is it just a master plan to get the number one pick next year? Whatever it is, he’s surely getting some lash backs from the people.

In the latest episode of the Colin Cowherd podcast, his guest said, “What’s the last time Brian Schottenheimer had a head coaching interview? Has he had one in a decade? Why would you fire Mike McCarthy, who has accomplished stuff, and then hire his offensive coordinator, who’s not some valued candidate? It doesn’t make any sense.

Backlashes on the decision didn’t just stop there. When the news reached legendary Michael Irvin, he couldn’t resist but speak his thoughts out. In a new episode of SPEAK, he said, “You bring in a guy that’s never really called plays, didn’t call the plays last year. Now, not only is he calling plays, he’s got the whole responsibility of lifting, controlling, and disciplining, and setting everybody in motion.” It’s safe to say that the Cowboys’ coaching decision is stirring up some serious conversation, and it might not settle down anytime soon.

Well, stuff like this makes you want to grab some popcorn and see how this all plays out.
