The Seahawks‘ offseason has been straight-up wild. First, they said goodbye to some key players, including Tyler Lockett—yeah, that one stung. Then, DK Metcalf decided to stir the pot by reportedly asking for a trade because, well, he wants to win now (hey there, Myles Garrett). And just when you thought it couldn’t get crazier, boom—Geno Smith gets shipped off to the Raiders. So, uh… who’s even staying in Seattle right now?

Because let’s be real—the Seahawks’ reset button is hitting harder than Thanos’ blip. Now, hold that thought. Because it looks like the Seattle time has now finally decided to pivot—first time this offseason, if we are not being wrong. And honestly, they are about to hit that classic, “text your ex before they move on” stunt. The reason?

Well, the free agency is almost here, and the Seattle team decided to re-sign their defensive tackle, Jarran Reed, just before he becomes a free agent this week. The ESPN Senior NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, reported the news on his official ‘X’ handle. “Before he becomes a free agent this week, DT Jarran Reed is re-signing a three-year deal worth up to $25 million with the Seattle Seahawks, per sources,” he wrote.

Go on Seahawks’ fans, throw that fist in the air—you’ve earned it. The Seahawks drafted Reed back in the 2016 NFL draft with the 49th overall pick. The guy spent his first five seasons in Seattle…well, the first five memorable seasons in Seattle. Except for his rookie season, Reed started every game that he played for the Seahawks. Plus, he averaged just shy of 39 tackles per season across his five seasons with the Seattle team.

However, the team released him after the 2020 season and Reed landed in Kansas City for his next season. He signed one-year, $5M deal with the Chiefs, and started in all 17 games, recording 43 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. And just when you thought that KC was his final home, Reed signed a one-year deal with the Packers.

After recording another standout season with the Packers (recorded 52 tackles and 2.5 sacks), it was time for Redd to return home. Back in 2023, the Seahawks offered him a two-year $12.8M to return to the Seahawks. And guess what? The guy agreed to make a comeback. In his second stint with the Seahawks, the 32-year-old DT recorded 99 combined tackles and 11.5 sacks in the last couple of years.

The result? A promotion. Well-deserving one. The Seahawks have now offered him a three-year $25M contract extension to stay in Seattle. Uff! Finally, someone’s staying with the Seahawks. However, one thing’s for sure: fans will not see DK Metcalf play with the Seahawks in 2025.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Seahawks just dodge a bullet by re-signing Jarran Reed before free agency chaos?

DK Metcalf’s warm demands for the 2025 season

“Doomsday.” That’s what the Seahawks’ general manager John Schneider said on a Seattle Sports 710-AM radio show at the start of the offseason. But why? Well, the team was nearly $30M over the salary cap space. Hmm, if we take a glance at their earlier situation, then it totally looked like a doomsday—little did we know that the team was being sarcastic. Oh yeah, it’s true. And their recent moves totally justified that.

In the last few days, the Seahawks released their four key players, including Tyler Lockett. At one point, the Seattle team had enough cap space to offer a contract extension to their QB, but nope, the front office had other plans as they traded him for a third-round draft pick. That means, the team’s now sitting with roughly $62.5 million in cap space. And they’re not done yet because DK Metcalf is yet to be traded.

When Metcalf requested a trade, the team agreed instantly, and then demanded a first and third-round pick from any team that wants to trade for Metcalf. But nah, not many teams were confident about that deal. Fast forward to now and the Seahawks changed the price to trade Metcalf. No, not a typo. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported this on Sunday.

“The Seahawks’ asking price for WR DK Metcalf has lowered, per sources. Seattle would be open to return centered around a second-round pick for the two-time Pro Bowl Receiver,” Russini reported. It looks like they shot their shot like it was a Super Bowl ad price—now it’s looking more like a Black Friday discount.

Throw in the latest demands from Metcalf for his trade, and the situation with him becomes all the more tricky. Reportedly, the WR now wants to play in a warm climate and is interested in receiving a new contract worth $30M+ annually. The same was reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini in a tweet. “The price to trade for Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has changed 👀. Metcalf prefers to play in a warm climate in addition to receiving a new contract worth $30+ million annually.

Anyway, this news confirms a couple of things. First, Metcalf’s market is giving a serious texted first, now left on read vibes. Second, other teams looking for a true WR1 will surely enter the market to trade for Metcalf. Until then, let’s just wait and watch for the Seahawks’ next move. Because, that’s not gonna change anytime soon, for sure.
