The NFL world is always divided into two groups: supporters and haters. But sometimes, the fans don’t have a specific reason to dislike a player. And in that case, some fans use the worst reasons to hate a player. And mostly, this hatred is merely annoying to the player and even some other legends of the game. Interestingly, something similar is going on with former CB Richard Sherman, who, by the way, is publicly defending one of his former teammates.

You might have guessed that this teammate is none other than the current Commanders‘ LB, Bobby Wagner. The 11-time All-Pro is often regarded as one of the best defensive players of all time. And his statistics back up this claim. Wagner has 1,838 tackles, 767 assists, 35 sacks, and 13 interceptions in his incredible 12-year career. There are no words to describe how impressive these statistics are. But, even after all these years, some fans still believe the man is overhyped. While Bobby has never said anything much about it, Richard Sherman despises this opinion. And the reason for that could be the fact that he understands the LB. After all, he was in the same defensive lineup as him for a lot of time.

The CB chose to express his views on X, claiming these haters to be completely stupid. He wrote, I keep seeing folks debate if @Bwagz is an All-Time great LB and the answer is simply yes. I don’t need your list or who you thought was better. 11x All-Pro is beyond contestation. You can feel however you want to feel about Eras or other stats, but saying he’s not among the greats is just silly.” This is a strong argument. The same haters will undoubtedly find it difficult to respond to this, and that’s what the CB is known for.

Richard Sherman is continuously facing problems with fans, and he always finds ways to make offensive remarks. The former CB has been like this since 2018, when he began to criticize his old team’s fanbase in the first place. Sherman has admitted several times that the Seattle Seahawks‘ fanbase cannot be more venomous than what they are right now. While recent players such as WR DK Metcalf have shown appreciation for the crowd, Sherman is not on the same page.

The legend has even referred to the fanbase as “ungrateful”. This was a truly shocking statement, but Richard Sherman is a pretty direct player who consistently confronts fan criticism.

Richard Sherman always wanted the fans to hate the game, not the player

The Seattle Seahawks had one of the league’s top defenses in the 2010s. And this is due to the team’s insane start-studded defensive lineup, with players such as the likes of Richard Sherman and Bobby Wagner. Unfortunately, after a couple of tough seasons, the team decided to give up and release them. Wagner’s release was recent, coming following the 2021 season. It was clear that the team did not want him, yet fans despised Wagner for seemingly no reason. And that time Richard Sherman came in to make a save.

What’s your perspective on:

Are Seattle Seahawks fans ungrateful for not appreciating Bobby Wagner's contributions to their only Super Bowl win?

The 12s were criticized by the former CB at the time for being a fan base that lacks the ability to recognize a good player. The Seahawks were able to win the 2014 Super Bowl under Wagner and Sherman. And these two did have a massive role in the team’s performance. Fans still do not respect the squad, even though they have won the league’s only championship in its 100-year history. Richard Sherman even made a comment on the team and the fans in February 2022. The CB had accurately predicted at the time that Bobby Wagner would be released by the team, and that’s exactly what happened.

Richard Sherman at that time, admitted, “Seattle fans are going to hate to hear this, because it’s just they hate accountability these days… they’re probably going to get rid of Bobby”. Sherman maintained a clear perspective even after he got released by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, and faced criticism for it.

Sherman’s feud with fans appears to have no end in sight. But what are your thoughts on the former CB’s statements? Do you think he is correct about Bobby Wagner?
