Some people are really salty about the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl. The most recent one is Will Compton. And he’s not just another NFL bettor who is upset because he placed his bets on the wrong team. He’s a 9 year NFL veteran who last played for the Las Vegas Raiders before retiring in 2021.

So, what exactly did he say about the NFL? And what prompted him to say these things about the league that he played for?

He had placed his bet against the Chiefs and then ended up losing $5,000. Then he took to X to rant. Compton compared the NFL to the WWE in that both were “scripted”. The tweet alleged, ‘They pick who they want to win. It’s all for entertainment & honestly I don’t even know why I watch & care so much. It’s all fake.”

Are these just the words of a bettor who lost? Or is there truth behind these words? Guess we’ll never know. But these same questions were posed to the NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell. And he dismissed all “fake” and “scripted” allegations in a good-humored manner.

Roger Goodell rubbishes “scripted” allegations

Compton’s recent remarks about the possibility of the NFL being scripted drew attention, particularly in light of questions posed to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during his annual state of the NFL press conference. Goodell dismissed the notion, emphasizing that neither he nor anyone on his staff possesses the capability to script such events. He reiterated that the idea of scripting NFL outcomes is nonsensical and unworthy of discussion.

“I don’t think I’m that good a scripter, or anybody on our staff,” Goodell said. “Listen, there’s no way I could have scripted that one. Let’s just put it that way. I think the idea that this was a script, that this was pre-planned, that’s nonsense. It’s frankly not even worth talking about. We see two people together having fun together. That’s wonderful. I wish them well. They’re both wonderful people.”

Despite these reassurances, the perception of the NFL as potentially scripted persists among some fans, echoing Compton’s concerns. While the thought of the NFL being fixed or scripted seems outlandish, the league faces a real challenge in dispelling these beliefs and maintaining the integrity of its games. As we await further commentary from Compton or potential responses from Goodell, the debate surrounding the authenticity of NFL games continues.
