Did the Giants waste Daniel Jones' talent, or was he never the right fit for them?

In the NFC East, the New York Giants are struggling in the 4th position. And now, they are taking hard steps. On November 22, they released the quarterback Daniel Jones. His performance had been terrible. With 2 wins and 8 losses, he wasn’t able to inspire the locker room. But his release made his friend, Saquon Barkley angry, who attacked the Giants HC Brian Daboll for not being resourceful.

The former Giants RB played 6 seasons for them before arriving at the Eagles in 2024. And he didn’t mince his words after his friend was released. He called out the HC and said, “It’s the #NFL. Hopefully, wherever he ends up next, they’re going to get a guy to come in and work.” Well, that’s understandable. The RB is enjoying a great first season at the Eagles.

In 6 seasons with the Giants, Saquon Barkley’s most number of touchdowns was 11 (in 2018). His most attempts, 295, and rushing yards, 1,312 came in 2022. The RB played 16 games in 2018 and 2022. But this year, he has been on another level. In 10 games of the 2024 season, he has 197 carries 1,137 rushing yards, and 8 touchdowns.

That’s why the RB thinks that the Giants wasted the talent of his QB friend Daniel Jones. And he didn’t shy away from putting the blame and said, “It didn’t work for me over there, and I’m doing well over here. Hopefully, he can find the same fresh start and success.”  Things are changing quickly in the league. There would be many more releases as the regular season moves closer to the end.

The news of releasing Daniel Jones came out of the blue. John Mara, the Giants owner, explained what went down.

Giants owner praised Saquon Barkley’s friend after releasing him

The Giants owner explained that Daniel Jones met him on the morning of November 22 and asked if they were going to release him. Both of them took the mutual decision to part ways, after which the news was released to the public. He praised QB’s sportsmanship and service to the franchise.

However, there are fewer chances of Daniel Jones having a fate like Saquon Barkley, who signed with the Eagles. Though some reports have claimed that the Cowboys might be interested in the quarterback, there’s no confirmation yet. It’s part and parcel of the game.
