On New Year, around 3:15 am, people were celebrating on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Out of nowhere, a US Army veteran from Texas, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove through the crowd. I created carnage, leaving havoc in the aftermath. Now, the NFL team of the city, the Saints owner Gayle Benson, displayed her support.
She already runs the Gayle and Tom Benson Disaster Relief Fund to help people trapped in such life-altering situations. In the wake of the New Year terrorist attack, she hoped for a better future and said, “In the wake of the tragic events on Bourbon Street this New Year’s, we are fully committed to supporting the victims and their families. It is our collective responsibility to support our community in times of hardship, and I will continue to stand with New Orleans as we heal together.“
