The Eagles are in the Super Bowl. Thanks to their offense, which ranks 8th in the NFL. Especially their rushing game, which ranks 2nd in the league. But who’s the man behind this success? It’s their offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Now other teams are gazing at him like a hawk to get his services. And front in the line are the Saints.

The NFL saga is heating up like a summer block party, and the Saints are stepping up their game after a rough 2024 finish at 5–12. With an offense averaging 19.9 pts/per game and a defense giving up 23.2 pts/per game, the vibe is “we’re over it, time for change.” The Saints recently confirmed their stance on hiring Kellen Moore & it’s sending a loud, clear message.

As per the NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Saints told #Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver and #Giants OC Mike Kafka no head coach moves will happen until after the SB. However, Schultz also emphasized, “This signals their intent to hire #Eagles OC Kellen Moore—barring any breakdowns in final negotiations, which legally can only take place after the Super Bowl since Philadelphia is still playing, sources tell @NFLonFOX.” Undoubtedly, the Saints might try and get Moore on board.

Moore’s resume is pure NFL street cred: as OC with the Cowboys, he ruled the roost—2019 saw a 1st place tot offense at 431.5 ypg, 2021 rocked with 407.0 ypg, and 2022 wrapped with 11th at 354.9 ypg. He then moved on to the Chargers (18th at 329.4 ypg) and dazzled with the Eagles (8th at 367.2 ypg). His playing days for the Cowboys in 2015 were brief—61/104, 779 yds, 4 TDs, 6 INTs, 71.0 PR—but his coaching climb is straight-up legendary.

Not just that. Moore boosted the Eagles’ offense as well. Former player and coach Tony Dungy believes the Eagles’ offense can dismantle the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. As he said, “I think for me it’s got to be Kellen Moore. Don’t leave that running game unless they force you to leave it. Let’s see if this Kansas City defense can stop the run.” Under Kellen Moore’s wings, Jalen Hurts flourished brilliantly.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kellen Moore's offensive magic turn the Saints into serious contenders this NFL season?

Have an interesting take?

He joined the Eagles in Feb 2024 only. Within a year, Hurts’s QB rating shot from 60.9 to 65.7. He had a completion rate of 68.7 in the 2024 season, which was his career-best so far. He had a passer rating of 103.7, another high in his career. The Saints certainly need someone like Moore for a better show next season. Yet it was a season that screamed “Time for a change!” After a disastrous 2-7 start, head coach Dennis Allen got the boot, with Darren Rizzi stepping in as interim.

Talking about the past, Sean Payton led the Saints alongside Drew Brees from 2006 to 2021 through 192 games to become perennial contenders. They reached a peak with their Super Bowl XLIV victory in 2009 while achieving the highest winning percentage of .615 and recording 118 wins. Following Payton’s departure, the team struggled significantly under Dennis Allen before the Saints began searching for a new head coach to guide them back to stability. With a storied history that’s seen it all—from the “Aints” era to Super Bowl glory—New Orleans is ready for its next legendary chapter, so can they do Moore?

Meanwhile, the Eagles’ coach Nick Sirianni praised his other coach before the Super Bowl clash.

It’s not just their offense that did the magic. The Eagles had an impeccable defense as well throughout the season. Their defensive guru Vic Fangio, now DC for the Eagles, has been schooling NFL teams since ’79. From his early days at UNM to stints with the Saints, Panthers, Colts, Texans, Ravens, 49ers, Bears, Dolphins, and even a head coach run with the Broncos (19–30), his expertise is unrivaled.

While Sirianni summed it up perfectly: “Yeah, a ton. A ton of confidence, just his, experience. He’s been an experienced coordinator in this NFL, a successful coordinator in the NFL for a long, long time…” His point? At the core of football are the basics: tackling, blocking, and controlling the ball.

Fangio’s defense brings that foundation to life, always reminding players that mastering the fundamentals is the key to success. As Sirianni concluded his admiration, “He’s just he just does a great job of calling the game, leading the defense. Can’t say enough good things about them.” Well, he is not wrong.

Before the 2024 season, the Eagles had Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator. Another great addition. And bang, they had the number 1 defense in the season. They allowed just 33 touchdowns, the third minimum of the season. Fangio’s defense has shut down even the most explosive offenses, largely due to the veteran-like composure of top draft picks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, who have been complete-package starters in the secondary. Mitchell excels as a lockdown corner on the outside, while DeJean offers versatility across multiple positions.

Sirianni would want his boys to carry on the momentum in the Super Bowl. So that they can square off their season 2022 defeat where they lost the SB to the Chiefs.
