After helping Philly lift the Super Bowl, OC Kellen Moore decided that he would stay back in New Orleans. On February 11, just two days after the Super Bowl, the Saints named Kellen Moore as their new HC. Ever since the former QB took on his new role, he has been checking off boxes of his team’s needs. “Everyone likes to say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert. That’s a famous book. Certainly, I felt like being around it for a long time led me to the opportunities that I’ve been presented. I’ve been preparing for this my entire life, I feel ready,” Moore said at his introductory press conference.

The Saints have high hopes for their new HC, believing he will help the team on their path to redemption. The new HC is doing everything his way, building the team, the O-line, and the D-line the way he wants. Even if that means changing a few things in a team that has been the same for more than a decade. Last week, the Saints came to an agreement on a trade, acquiring New England‘s defensive tackle Davon Godchaux.

What coach Kellen saw when bringing Godchaux onto the squad was the opportunity to change the team’s usual, or let’s say ‘traditional’, defensive front. This year, the Saints will more likely shift to a ‘three-man defensive front.’ NFL insider Steve Wyche, for the NFL Network, dropped his insights on the Saints’ strategy this year. Talking about Davon Godchaux, he said, “The person I spoke to said the binding ingredient on that defense could be nose tackle, Davon Godchaux… they’re going to an odd front, a three-man front for the first time in more than 15 years.

So, in his new scheme under Moore, Davon would most likely be positioned as the nose tackle, which is a key role in a three-man front. And the 30-year-old is already ready to play at this position. “I can play nose, I can play four (technique), I can play five (technique). I can play it all. I’m a versatile player and I’m excited to bring that,” said Davon.

That’s not the only thing new coach Kellen Moore is changing. There is more to the story.

Kellen Moore’s leadership: A new chapter for the Saints

Kellen’s a little wizard. He’s a little wizard, Harry.Jordan Mailata joked a few hours before the Super Bowl. Well, Philly‘s little wizard is now with the Saints. And he is ready to set a new era for the team. “He (Moore) has been a winner at every stage of his career, both as a player and a coach,” said Saints owner Gayle Benson

But before the HC could promise wins for the team, he has to make sure that there is a roster that can achieve it. After the free agency shopping spree, Kellen’s next big task is the draft. As per an NFL insider, the Saints’ strategy for this draft would be to draft players who could eventually replace the veterans. There are a few players on the squad who are nearing the end of their careers. DE Cameron Jordan is 35, safety Tyrann Mathieu is 36. Now is the time for the team could look for options that could step up in their shoes.

NFL insider Judy Battista revealed, “So the person I spoke with said, because of that aging roster, don’t be surprised if a lot of the players they draft are duplicate positions. You know, maybe this is it for Cam Jordan, so they go out and they get a defensive end.” If the Saints bring in replacements in this draft, it would also help the rookies learn under the veterans. Eventually, when the veterans hang up their cleats, the young ones will be ready to carry the team on their shoulders.
