Can Ryan Poles' genius turn the Bears into Super Bowl champs with Caleb Williams at the helm?

Quarterback is the most important position for any NFL team. And the Chicago Bears have made the perfect choice in 2024. Caleb Williams was their No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on a four-year rookie contract, worth $39.4 million, fully guaranteed. This move by Bears GM Ryan Poles gave them plenty of space to make important additions to the roster. They acquired six-time Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen for $23 million. Bears signed a record 4-year contract extension deal with DJ Moore for $110 million. NFL analysts are now praising these trades.

Calling it a wise tactic, Super Bowl champion Chris Canty praised Bears GM for utilizing the rookie contract advantage by signing Williams. Speaking on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio show, Canty said, “This is wise by Ryan Poles to capitalize on this window and put more top-of-the-market talent because you got a quarterback on a rookie contract.” This, according to Chris Canty, essentially makes them a serious contender for the Super Bowl 4-5 years down the line. Adding that the Bears saved more than $20 million from QB’s deal as the current QB price is revolving around $55 million, he said, “If you’re the Chicago Bears, that’s the advantage that you have in terms of building out the rest of your roster, which is absolutely huge.

Speaking of team building, the Bears wanted to sign the talented QB after his impressive college performances. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner had 4,537 passing yards and 42 touchdowns in 2022. Producing a similar performance in 2023 with 3,333 yards and 30 TDs, he was one of the best QBs available in the draft. And the Bears planned their move to sign him up. They traded QB Bryce Young, their first pick in 2023, to the Carolina Panthers to get the first pick in 2024. With a salary cap on the rookie contracts, the franchise is expecting huge dividends.
