Even artists like Rihanna and Katy Perry won’t get paid for the show. According to Brian McCarthy, the NFL covers all the expenses for the show and doesn’t pay performers’ union scale, as he explained to Newsweek in 2022.

She said, “The NFL covers all costs associated with the shows and does pay the performers’ union scale. There is no appearance fee, but the artists are indeed paid union scale.” Interestingly, the only exception was Michael Jackson in 1993 when the NFL agreed to pay $100,000 to the singer for his Hear the World Foundation, per the New York Times. Despite him, no other artists ever get paid. But they did make sales in different ways.

NFL performances witness a hike in the sales!

Last season, Rihanna witnessed a tremendous hike in her sales. She introduces her incredible 17-piece collection inspired by the Super Bowl through her company Savage X Fenty. Her collection includes a cute Super Bowl Beanie worth $32.95 and a hoodie with her company name imprinted. The halftime show even witnessed a boost in streaming numbers and sales.

Furthermore, The Weeknd sold about four times as many albums on his Super Bowl appearance, and his streaming rates were tripled. Even Rihanna saw a 390% increase in song sales after her show in 2023. Plus, 640% jump in Spotify stream.
