For the Week 17 game against the Chargers, Broncos’ HC Sean Payton took a huge decision of benching QB Russell Wilson. Now this move is being debated across the football world. And recently Super Bowl winner Ryan Clark was in the crosshairs for speaking against the team’s HC.

Russell Wilson arrived at the Broncos with much fanfare and big money. The dream was, however, not lived as the Broncos performed subpar in 2022 and 2023. As reports emerge that the benching is a signal that Wilson will be released from the Broncos roster, expert opinions are flying in. And RC shared his thoughts on the callout as well.

After the news broke, the former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Clark, did not hold back on his thoughts about the entire situation. “Sean Payton has behaved as a thug since he became the coach of the Denver Broncos,” he said on ESPN. But Josina Anderson, senior NFL insider for CBS Sports, did not appreciate his language.

I also believe calling Sean Payton a ‘thug’ is intentionally inflammatory”, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) without mentioning Ryan Clark in a post about supporting Wilson. But the 44-year-old Pro Bowler did not let this slide away.

“Might as well @ me Jo!”, tweeted Clark to the original post of Anderson. Though Anderson has not replied to this as of writing this article. Wilson being benched, has shaken the football world to its core. With many theories around as to why Wilson is benched for Week 17, finances could be a hefty reason.

Russell Wilson’s $245 million contract was much talked about. But there’s a fine point in the 35-year-old’s contract that states that if the QB is declared injured on 5th March 2024, the Broncos are liable to pay him $37.5 million.
