Russell Wilson is facing an uncertain offseason! Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season ended with a whimper and an underwhelming 10-7 record followed by a wild-card exit. And now the QB is at a critical crossroads in his career. Heading into free agency this year, he has expressed a desire to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the face of competition from the younger Justin Fields and potential draftee Jalen Milroe, he is focused on keeping a positive mindset.
This was evident from his latest Instagram post. Russell Wilson, 36, recently shared @businessgrowthmentor’s post on his IG story, as it featured Jeff Bezos’ famous quote. “You can be grinding for 4 years with no results, and in the 5th year, become the biggest thing on this planet. The power of not giving up is real,” the saying by the founder of Amazon and visionary entrepreneur reads. Wilson also tagged Jeff Bezos in his post.

Echoing Jeff Bezos’ advice to keep persevering, it is indeed helping him navigate the current situation. Even though his 2024 season with the Steelers started with injuries, he was named an alternate to the 2024 Pro Bowl. He made a strong 6-1 record in the first seven games. But the team faltered as it closed the season in an underwhelming fashion.
Now, the veteran QB is set to become a free agent on March 12, 2025. And, before he potentially retires, he seeks one significant contract. Wilson has made his intentions clear. “I loved every moment of it,” he remarked, reflecting on his time with the Steelers. But, the team is currently in a state of transition, which makes resigning Wilson far from a guarantee.

Russell Wilson’s future with the Steelers shrouded in ambiguity
Steelers are currently considering a range of options. The inclination also edges towards younger QBs like Fields or drafting rookie QBs like Jalen Milroe from Alabama. Along with Wilson, Fields will also become a free agent in 2025. And now, all eyes are on head coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan regarding their ultimate decision.

However, given that dark clouds loom over his future, Wilson meanwhile also has other options to consider. The New York Giants are a keen suitor after releasing Daniel Jones in 2024. Reportedly, Wilson was in contact with them amidst his free agency last year. The Las Vegas Raiders have also shown potential interest. This is after they hired head coach Pete Carroll, pointing towards a potential reunion. Carroll and Wilson were previously with the Seahawks, winning a Super Bowl together.

Reflecting on it, however, Wilson remarked, as highlighted in ESPN’s article from Feb 2, “Pete’s going to be a great coach, obviously. He’s great at what he does. But I’m focused on the Steelers.” Indeed, Wilson has solid dreams for the final phase of his career in the NFL. And only time will tell where he gets to make the most of it!
