After week 17, the Steelers have a 10-6 win-loss record. The fans hope that the veteran QB Russell Wilson would take them to a Super Bowl. In 10 games this year, he has a 6-4 record. When he came back on the gridiron in the week 7 game against the NY Jets, they won 4 games before suffering the first loss against Browns in week 12. Overall, they are locked in for the playoffs. It’s crucial.

Mike Tomlin’s team got off the winning track by losing 3 back-to-back teams since week 15. So, Mr. Unlimited took it upon himself to raise the morale of his locker room. He posted an Instagram story of his defense with 1-word message that read, “Killers.” It featured linebackers, TJ Watt, Nick Herbig, and Alex Highsmith. These 3 have played a big role in their wins this season.

In 12 games, Nick Herbig has 4.5 sacks with 20 tackles (12 solo). Playing in his 5th NFL season, Highsmith has recorded 6.0 sacks and 38 tackles (24 solo) in 10 games. TJ Watt has been the leader of their defense. In 16 games, he has forced 6 fumbles with 11.5 sacks with 61 tackles (40 solo). So Russell Wilson is counting on them to stop their rivals from scoring in the postseason too.

Ahead of their week 18 game against the Bengals, the veteran wants everyone to stay focused. They would like to win the matchup. But the Bengals are more eager to win. They have an 8-8 win-loss record. If they win while Broncos and Dolphins lose their last game, they would qualify into the playoffs. So, the fans are excited about the battle in the last game of the season.

But the football world is abuzz with other news. The potential contract extension for a QB1, who initially signed a 1-year $1.2 million (veteran minimum) deal. But he got a huge endorsement for a huge deal.

Former Steelers legend and 2-time Super Bowl winner, Ben Roethlisberger, made a huge statement about the future of Russell Wilson. While talking about the contract extension, he said, “You’re not gonna be able to give Russ a one-year. If the Steelers want Russ back, I assume it’d be a 3-year, $100 million deal, like Baker Mayfield’s in Tampa.” That sounds wild for sure.

In 10 games this year till week 17, Russell Wilson has 197 of 305 passes (64.6% completion rate) in 2,334 passing yard with 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Even in the rushing game, he had 39 rushes for 139 yards with 2 touchdowns. So, the management would probably be happy to offer him an extension. Only the amount could be an issue, given his age of 36 years.

However, the QB isn’t concerned about the contract at this time. In early December, he said, “We’ve got the right mentality, the right leadership, the right head coach. There’s nobody better.” The target is clear. A Super Bowl! If he wins, it could certainly be legendary.
