Highs and Lows are always part and parcel of a player’s career in the NFL. And Russell Wilson, for one, had gone through the lowest of lows before joining Pittsburgh. But after wearing the black and white, Russ slowly found his mojo and love for the game back. However, all of that positive energy was extinguished when the Steelers went on a five-game losing streak to end what could have been a special season. So, with dark clouds hovering above Wilson’s probable return next season. The Steelers QB penned an emotional message to Steel City.
Taking to his Instagram on Friday, Wilson posted a compilation of the one year he spent with the Steelers Nation. And while doing so, he also thanked his coaches, teammates, and fans who have remained supportive of the nine-time Pro Bowler, “All Glory to God! Year 13! 🙏🏾 Grateful for my amazing teammates, coaches, & fans! 🖤💛 @steelers.” His 13th season was nothing less than a roller-coaster ride for Wilson.

After getting thrown out of Denver with his NFL career in darkness, the Steelers picked him up on a 1-year deal. They didn’t just offer Wilson a home when he didn’t have any possible suitors. Mike Tomlin made Russ his starter ahead of Justin Fields. And even though Wilson couldn’t start the season until week 7 because of his calf injury. Tomlin still didn’t back out from his word of keeping Wilson as a starter. Despite all the noise and critics shredding apart Tomlin’s decision, Wilson took the Steelers to a 10-3 record at one point.
His steady hand and experience helped the Steelers clinch the playoffs, and they were also a win away from wrapping up the AFC North. However, that’s when it all started going south for Wilson. He couldn’t retrace that early-season success, and his Steelers lost five in a row with Wilson’s offense just averaging 14 points. Now, as the Steelers are preparing for a probable clean-out before next season. Wilson’s chances of returning remain slim. Pittsburgh’s reporters feel Wilson stands at the edge of not reclaiming his starting spot in 2025.

Steelers reporters post worrying updates on Russell Wilson’s future
It’s already common knowledge that Wilson’s one-year deal is soon coming to an end. He is set to hit unrestricted free agency with his future still in doubt. So, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac pointed out the uncertainty surrounding Wilson’s probable return next season, “They are going into off-season with uncertainty at quarterback. And I think you’ve heard me say when we’ve talked before that when Russell Wilson and the Steelers agreed on a contract. In the spring that the intention on both sides was to do a longer-term deal now. I don’t know how that’s going to play out now. I don’t know if the same feeling exists among the Steelers.” Well, considering how the Steelers’ season ended in a disappointing wildcard exit to divisional rivals, the Ravens.
It won’t be surprising if the Steelers do decide to move on from Russ. Now, Dulac wasn’t the only one today who revealed the probability of Wilson returning next season. Long-time NFL writer for Steel City, Mark Kaboly, also gave a worrying update on Wilson’s future. When asked whom he sees as a starter for the Steelers next season, Kaboly just straight up said, “Justin Fields.” See, it won’t be a surprise if the Steelers do go back to Fields as their starter.
