Russell Wilson jumped ships and signed with the New York Giants after the Steelers didn’t show much interest in him. He arrived at MetLife Stadium, all smiles in a new shade of blue for a fresh start, and inked his contract just a week after the team brought in veteran quarterback Jameis Winston. But the former revealed, “Yeah, I expect to be the starter,” and shared how he could lead them in every way, but there was a caveat…
The Giants are expected to pick a quarterback from the 2025 NFL Draft, and speculations have connected none other than Shedeur Sanders to them. Even owner John Mara agreed earlier this year that they need to find a franchise quarterback—a long-term solution to their “No. 1 issue” this offseason, and someone from the draft seems to be the answer. Even if they don’t specifically pick Shedeur and get a QB with a later pick, the rookie could develop under the veterans. But barely had the ink dried on Wilson’s deal before certain whispers turned into rumblings.
Now, just days before the NFL Draft, another twist is unfolding, and Wilson’s grip on the starting job might be slipping faster than a wet football in December. The competition is heating up. The stakes? Career-defining. And the name suddenly making waves might just change everything. That name is Shedeur Sanders.

According to NFL reporter Adam Schefter on Instagram: “ESPN Sources: Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders will hold one last private workout Thursday in Boulder, Colorado for a contingent of officials from the New York Giants. Some final intrigue leading into next week’s NFL Draft in Green Bay.” The Giants have Jameis Winston providing competition for the QB1 slot already, and if they add Shedeur Sanders, it would be a high-pressure situation for Wilson. Here’s the thing:
Neither Wilson nor Winston is particularly head and shoulders above the other. To focus on Jameis Winston, he landed 13 touchdowns in the previous season with a completion percentage of 61.1%. He played only 12 games for the Browns. And now, if we focus on Russell Wilson’s stats of the 2024 season, the former Super Bowl champ scored 16 touchdowns last season after completing 214 out of 336 passes made with a CMP rate of 63.7. So, the Giants’ QB room is filled with comparable talent, and that’s why the elephant in the room is the starting position.
Russell has already said that he expects to become a starter, which he has been throughout his career. However, speculations have been flying on the internet that the Giants would give Jameis preferred treatment. And just imagine how intense the competition for the starting QB position would be if Deion Sanders’ son, who made 37 TDs last season with a completion percentage of 74%, also joins in.

So, let’s see what’s going to be the situation for Wilson if the Giants concretize the Shedeur Sanders decision for their No. 3 overall pick after the private workout. But while this drama is going on, the Giants have hit the city with surprising trade news. What is it?
What’s your perspective on:
Is Russell Wilson's starting position with the Giants already in jeopardy with Shedeur Sanders in the mix?

Russell Wilson’s Giants are going to trade Kayvon Thibodeaux?
According to recent reports, the San Francisco 49ers would trade for the Giants’ edge Kayvon Thibodeaux. The pass rusher was a 2022 NFL draft pick and currently holds a $31,000,000 contract with the Giants. The Giants are (reportedly) going to end up picking up Abdul Carter at No. 3 while they already have Thibodeaux.
So, everybody knows what would happen if the Giants pick edge Abdul Carter. Thibodeaux would be in an odd-man-out situation. They also have edge rusher Brian Burns. So, Kayvon Thibodeaux’s career would be in danger in New York. But there is another angle to the story.
According to Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated, it will be difficult for the 49ers to expect something like this because Thibodeaux will enter the final season of his rookie contract, and so, if the Giants trade a mid-round pick for him, he could leave in free agency. The team would then get a compensatory pick later.

The 24-year-old Kayvon Thibodeaux, who had 5.5 sacks along with 14 solo tackles and one forced fumble in 2024, is now likely to get traded. At least, that’s what recent reports suggest. But the rusher could continue his stint with the Big Blue if they move on from Abdul Carter and pick Shedeur Sanders at No. 3 instead. The Draft-day drama is heating up, and two Giants’ career trajectories could be hanging in the balance!
