Would Russell Wilson really cut off his leg to play, or is Big Ben just hyping him up?

Russell Wilson, a Super Bowl champion and veteran quarterback, has always been known for his toughness and competitive spirit. But for the time being, he is recovering from a calf injury. His availability for the upcoming games for the Pittsburgh Steelers is a serious question now.

On the podcast Footbahlin, on Channel Seven‘s YouTube channel, Ben Roethlisberger gave a colorful take on just how determined Wilson is to play. The Steelers legend is convinced that Wilson would do anything to take the field against his former team, the Denver Broncos. “He’s going to do everything in his power to get on the field next week. He might cut off his leg, put a different leg on, just to get out there,” Roethlisberger joked.

It’s clear that Roethlisberger has a lot of respect for Wilson’s drive. He’s confident the star QB is doing everything he can to heal up and make an impact. “But you know and I don’t I don’t we don’t know the severity of the injury so we don’t know is there even is it really an option coach is going to do a great job of not announcing it so that no one knows, “ he added. It is expected that the Steelers’ veteran QB wants to prove a point to the Broncos. They are paying him big bucks not to play for them. He would want to prove them wrong by showing them exactly what he’s capable of on the field.

Wilson’s calf injury, which flared up during training camp, has forced the Steelers to lean on Justin Fields as the temporary starter. Roethlisberger noted how Wilson’s leadership on the sideline has been impressive, and despite the injury, Wilson is still very much the team’s starter in his eyes. “If [Russell Wilson] is healthy, it goes back to Russ,” he said, emphasizing that Wilson is the guy to lead the team once he’s ready.

Whether Wilson can get back in time for the highly anticipated Broncos matchup remains to be seen. But you see one thing’s for sure, he’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. Also, the previous Steelers’ game with the Falcons, young QB Fields showed everyone he is not a bad choice.

Russell Wilson’s week 2 status in Limbo as Justin Fields shines, tough decision for the Steelers

Wilson’s chances of playing in Week 2 for the Pittsburgh Steelers are hanging in the balance. You can say this since Justin Fields has stepped up in his absence. After the 35-year-old’s calf injury in Week 1, Fields took over and led the Steelers to an 18-10 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. While Fields didn’t put up flashy numbers—just 156 passing yards and no touchdowns. But at the same time, his ability to make clutch plays, like a 40-yard connection with George Pickens, has raised some eyebrows.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin͏ isn’t giving away too much ͏just yet. “You ͏can ask me͏ that ͏o͏n Tuesd͏ay,” he͏ responded when asked about ͏Wilson’s status, suggesting the decision is still ͏up in the air. Russell Wils͏on, on the other hand, ͏seems eager to play, especially with a “revenge gam͏e” against h͏is former ͏team, the Denver Broncos, looming. As Adam Schefter pointed ͏out, “R͏ussell’s gonna want to be out͏ there,” ͏adding ͏emotional weight to ͏the decision.

Analyst Rich Eisen suggests the Steelers could start the veteran QB out of respect for his experience and ties to his former team. Still, Tomlin has emphasized putting healthy players on the field, and Fields is clearly ready to go. With Wilson’s status still uncertain, the Steelers face a tough call.
