It’s about to get DangeRuss, but not in Pittsburgh. Yep that’s right. Didn’t y’all think that Justin Fields’ move to the Jets would open up a clear route for Russell Wilson to return? Well, not exactly. Despite Wilson’s clear interest in continuing with the black and gold, the Steelers front office is pursuing other options (Aaron Rodgers). So, with the free agency market in full swing and Mr. Unlimited yet to find a place he could call home. He is off to New York—not for a vacation. To manoeuvre a move to the Giants, which could be a disaster in the making. That’s what former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum believes. Why? Let’s find out.

Appearing on The Get Up ESPN show, Tannenbaum predicted what a Russ and Giants union could look like. Sending a warning to Wilson, Tannenbaum said, “If you go to the New York Giants, it will be the professional grave.” And further backed his statements, sending a question back at Russ, asking, “When was the last time since Eli Manning, a QB, went to the Giants and he had a good story to tell.” I mean he is not wrong you know.

Since Manning walked away from the Big Blues in 2019, as a future Hall of Famer and two Super Bowl wins against Tom Brady’s Patriots. It was time for Daniel Jones to take over Manning’s mantle. But in his 6 seasons with the Big Blues, Jones never reached his full potential. Yep, there’s the 2022 season where he threw 3,205 yards and 15 TDs. While leading the Giants to a divisional round game against their arch-rivals, the Eagles, which they of course lost. But that was it.

Jones never reached those same heights again and left the Giants when they sacked him mid-way through the campaign last season. His tenure in the Big Apple ended with an abysmal 3.1 TD percentage, the lowest among all the other QBs within that period. Surely Russ wouldn’t turn out to be the next failed QB at a place he won his only Super Bowl, right? I mean, after Eli Manning. It was Russ who won a playoff game inside MetLife Stadium, that too against Eli’s brother, Peyton in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Maybe instead of a failed chapter it could be yet another Giants underdog story, who knows. But this move will only materialize, if the Browns pass on the signing of Wilson.

Is Russell Wilson set to be newest member of the Dawg Pound?

The Browns have just now picked a Super Bowl champion QB—whose name is, of course, not Jalen Hurts. It’s his backup Kenny Pickett, who is slated to be the next Browns starting QB come 2025 season. However, the Browns are still short of options. Dorian Thompson-Robinson going to Philadelphia in exchange for Pickett means the Browns are left with Deshaun Watson, and Bailey Zappe as backups. Watson, who clearly won’t play another game in Cleveland—until the Browns want a riot outside. They should take their chances on Wilson, who still has a lot to offer.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Russell Wilson's move to the Giants a career suicide or a chance for redemption?

And there’s also reports that he will be meeting the Browns in Cleveland soon. Ignoring a veteran QB who is coming off a 2,482 yards and 16 TDs season wouldn’t be a wise move. See, you might be thinking, why not draft a QB with the No.2 pick instead of taking a 36-year-old? If that’s your thought, you are absolutely correct, no doubt. But you also need to understand that Pickett and a young franchise signal-caller wouldn’t solve the Browns’ QB woes. What if Pickett fails and Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward are thrust into the job. What if they also fail? Then, there will be chaos all over again.

So, getting an experienced QB like Wilson would do more good than harm to the Browns. And surely they would like to save themselves from yet another embarrassing 4-13 campaign. Right now, it’s all just a prediction, nothing is written on the wall. But it will soon be more than a prediction once Wilson finds a new home.
