The clouds of doubt over Russell Wilson in the coming season have finally scattered. HC Mike Tomlin announced Russ as the starting quarterback for the Steelers. It came as a bolt to some analysts who criticized Mr. Unlimited left, right, and center. They questioned his fitness and game skills. Ultimately, the coach went with experience.
While he initially thanked the god and expressed gratitude on Twitter, he later decided to take shots at his haters. And guess what! He knows the hip-hop scene and chose Jay-Z’s song ‘Some People Hate‘ while posting his photo on his Instagram story. He also knows his haters don’t like him on the gridiron. While his performances and experiences are solid, some people still doubt him.

Blessed & Full of Gratitude. Honored to Lead this special group of men. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Former OL and 3-time Super Bowl winner, Mark Schlereth, roasted the QB. Predicting that Wilson will only play 5 games as he can’t fit with the team’s running game style, he added that he is not a leader. The lineman said, “Russ isn’t willing to admit he isn’t good at stuff. He’s delusional. If you’re not willing to admit it, then you can’t fix it.” While the last few years may not have been up to the expectations, the QB is showing sparks of a comeback.
He performed well during the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions, with 5 snaps and 1 scoring drive. During the preseason, Wilson played 25 snaps and had 10 of 12 attempts for 73 yards with one touchdown and 5.7 air yards per attempt. His closest rival, Justin Fields, got comparatively more game time with 56 snaps but only managed 19 of 27 attempts for 199 yards with one touchdown and 8.3 air yards per attempt.

For now, everyone is excited. They brought Wilson as their number-one choice, and he still is.
Russell Wilson, the number 1 QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Since he joined the Steelers, Mr Unlimited has spoken about his aim of winning the Super Bowl. After practicing during the training camps and preseason, he again asserted his thoughts, saying, “I know I’m ready. I’m just humbled by and grateful that God has given me just another opportunity to wake up this morning and just do what I love to do, what a gift it is. And so, I’m looking forward to doing that.” The coach also thinks the same.

Tomlin understands the team’s best shot at winning the matches will be with the Super Bowl-winning signal caller. His observations of both players during their intense practice session made it easier for him. However, the coach didn’t rate his 2nd in-charge, Justin Fields, much lower. Praising him, the HC said, “His unique talent as it pertains to mobility is something that we’re open to weaponizing, although I have acknowledged that Russ is QB1.” Everything is professional!
When Tomlin told both players about his decision, they gracefully accepted it. With such clarity in approach, can they do wonders in 2024? Wilson knows that this is his last chance to shine. If he doesn’t, his career may fall in jeopardy.
