Does Russell Wilson's success with George Pickens expose Justin Fields' inability to utilize his talent?

A clash of thoughts! Earlier Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis commented on George Pickens calling him “weak,” and that the Pittsburgh Steelers “need a receiver.” Then, shortly after that, the Steel City’s coach Mike Tomlin as well as QB2, Justin Fields, talked about his less involvement in the game in Week 5. Although Fields was not that happy with Pickens and struggled to link with him, their new quarterback, Russell Wilson noted the WR’s importance.

Mr. Unlimited returned to the field to face off against the New York Jets in Week 7. And guess what? Unlike Justin Fields, Russell Wilson has good things to say about his connection, George Pickens.

Post-game in a press conference, Wilson praised the WR, saying, “You know George is so talented. He makes it easy on the quarterback. Man, he just knows how to get open, he knows how to make plays, his ability to make contested catches, you know, is remarkable.” Contradictory statement from Fields, right?

These statements suited Wilson well, as during the game, it was clearly visible that the quarterback was easily able to connect with Pickens for five catches for 111 yards. But when you ask Fields about his connection with the 23-year-old, he has a different answer.

After the Week 5 loss, a curious reporter asked the now-benched quarterback about involving Pickens in the game on a limited basis. To which, Fields mentioned, “Trevon [Diggs] traveled with GP a little bit. He’s a good corner. But, you know, GP is also a good receiver. So, he just didn’t get involved as he usually does today.” These two statements subtly hint that, according to the 25YO, Pickens did not make good enough runs to get open.

And now this new statement from the new QB, has definitely caught the attention of the Steelers nation, as many think it’s Russell Wilson’s subtle honest take on what Fields said earlier. Nevertheless, Pickens got his respect from Wilson, as the two led the team to win this one.

During the Cowboys game, George Pickens made it loud by donning eye black that read, “Open F—-ing Always.” With this, he made his stand clear on the team. Nevertheless, unfortunately, that move didn’t bring victory for the Steelers. In addition to that, he got less number of targets, due to “snap management” as per coach Mike Tomlin. All these setbacks threatened to boil over inside him, but thanks to Russell Wilson for stepping up at the crucial time, and giving him the opportunity he wanted.

Pickens was a nightmare for the Jets. In the game, he made five catches for 111 yards and grabbed his first touchdown of the year. He even drew a key pass-interference call that helped the Steelers get their first score. His supremacy can also be told by seeing that even Sauce Gardner, one of the best cornerbacks, struggled to stop Pickens.
