The Pittsburgh Steelers have been riding a rollercoaster season through 2024 with a 10-3 record. While the team kicked off on a high with 3 back-to-back wins, the streak is now disrupted as a result of injuries to key players, including George Pickens. Pickens’ impressive stats such as the 850 yards and 3 TDs have made him an essential part of the pack. Without him, the Steelers are adjusting and their star QB Russell Wilson‘s comment on this absence reveals a lot about how they plan to tackle the next game.

Ahead of the Steelers matchup with the Eagles, Wilson had a few things to share about his team. While he didn’t say a lot about Pickens’ absence directly, he did mention, “I think with all the guys that we have, we’ve got guys that have great experience. I’ve done some amazing things in this league.” The QB gave complete credit to key players like Mike Williams, Calvin Austin, and Scotty Miller who have stepped in during the WR’s absence.

Continuing the conversation, he also emphasized that the team still has a lot of talent and he has full confidence in the guys. “We have some guys that, Big Ben, Scronic has done some amazing things too along the way. Van’s been special for us this year. So we’ve got great confidence in the guys we have.” Wilson’s belief highlights the trust and resilience within the Steelers’ locker room as they are ready to keep their playoff hopes alive even without their star receiver.

If we look back at the Steelers’ last game against the Cleveland Browns, it was clear how Pickens’ absence left a mark on the offense. Russell Wilson threw for 158 yards, along with 2 TDs and zero interceptions, and faced significant pressure. But the running game led by Najee Harris was impressive as he went for 53 yards on 16 carries and maintained the offense balance. However, they were left to rely more on their passing tactics, with contributions from Williams and Austin on key catches. The defense, on the other hand, led by T.J. Watt, also played a crucial role in helping the team seal another victory.

Now, as the Steelers prepare for their upcoming game against the Eagles, playing without Pickens can turn out to be a challenge. As the Eagles have a powerful defense that can put more pressure on Wilson’s passing game.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Steelers' offense survive without Pickens, or will the Eagles' defense expose their weaknesses?

Have an interesting take?

The Steelers have been dealing with some key injuries for quite some time now. With key players like George Pickens, C.J. Henderson, Roman Wilson, and more out of the game, their chances of winning seem to fray a little. The team needs to utilize other important key resources such as Harris, Pat Freiermuth, Kyle Allen, etc. in a better way to increase their winning chances. Though Harris shines on the field with 877 rushing yards and 5 TDs, he will need support from others to keep the boat afloat.

On the other hand, their opponent, the Eagles, are ever the powerful with an impressive offense. Jalen Hurts, the star QB, leads with 2,602 yards and 16 TDs while A.J. Brown continues to dominate with 836 yards and 4 TDs. And let’s not forget the Eagles’ star performer Saquon Barkley, who is literally rushing for 1,623 yards and 11 TDs. The Eagles will offer an equally thrilling matchup and try their best to keep the Steelers on their toes and pressure them into mistakes they can capitalize on.

The upcoming game between the Eagles and Steelers promises to be an exciting one as both teams will dominate the other for playoff hopes. Let’s see how well the Steelers will perform without their WR and how well the Eagles manage to keep the internal conflicts off the field.
