Ever since the Steelers wrapped up their season, Russell Wilson has been in the debates for his potential trade. Russ, who signed a year contract with them in 2024, will be open in the free agency market from March 13, 2025, if the Steelers don’t confirm his extension. But hold on, the most important update about Wilson has just hit.

Y’all know that Wilson’s potential trade destinations also include Tom Brady‘s Raiders. But the important update has landed in Las Vegas. Pete Carroll’s former assistant at the Seahawks and Wilson’s former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell may join the Raiders. NFL’s Ian Rapoport revealed the news on Tuesday.

Raiders hired Pete Carroll as the head coach on Jan 24 and since then it’s been highly debated that Russell Wilson can be the perfect fit for the franchise QB. Talking about Bevell, Caroll, and Russell Wilson, the trio won the Super Bowl in 2013. Bevell was an offensive coordinator for the Seahawks from 2011 to 2017. The head coaches generally hire OC, DC, and special team coaches in their comfort zone. As we have seen in the Cowboys HC case and the Jets HC hiring case, most top officials believe in appointing colleagues who have already worked with them for lubrication and chemistry in the working.

Talking about Bevell, he is currently the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins since 2022. The former Seahawks OC was the Jaguars interim HC and OC in his one-year tenure with the Jaguars (2021). Before joining the Jaguars and Dolphins respectively in 2021 and 2022, Bevell worked as an interim HC and offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions (2019-20).

Possibilities of Russell Wilson-Pete Carroll reunion

You must be thinking, ‘How did all this conversation about the Wilson-Carroll reunion start?’ Well, one of the important reasons behind the talks is what Art Rooney II (the Steelers owner) spoke about the starting QBs. And the Steelers’ IG post about the ‘21st overall pick’ regarding the upcoming drafts is not a coincidence. The IG post potentially talked about the new QB other than Russ. And if we talk about what the Steelers owner said, the picture about the ‘Wilson-Carroll reunion’ would be much clearer.

What’s your perspective on:

Is a reunion with Bevell and Carroll exactly what Russell Wilson needs to revive his career?

Have an interesting take?

On Jan 26, Art Rooney II was talking about who will be the starting QB for the team between Wilson and Justin Fields in the 2025 season. Rooney II said, “After the coaching staff is in place, the priority will be the quarterback position for sure. We have some decisions to make there. And I thought both Russ and Justin showed promise in certain stretches during the season. I think they’re both capable of being starters in this league. So, we have decisions and they have decisions too…” If this involves hints for Wilson and Fields? Maybe.

The owner also said, “I think both of them see themselves as starters. And I don’t know that they wanna share the same job again next year. So, I would say most likely we probably won’t wind up bringing them both back.” That’s why we may see the Pete Carroll and Wilson duo in the upcoming season. But here is a catch… Do you know what Russell Wilson has said about when he wants to retire? The 36-year-old QB said, “I got so much more in me. My goal is to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a long time. And hopefully finish my career there.” Well, too many things have to be sorted to see Wilson in the Black and White Jersey of the Raiders. But there is hope for Wilson, anyway.

If he wants to retire after the 2025 season, surely he’s gonna end up in either franchise, both of which are part of his heart.
