For almost a decade, the city of Seattle had a hero. It’s none other than their QB Russell Wilson. A magician on the field with moon balls, a family man with his popstar wife and children, and a gentleman with a generous heart. It’s not easy to find a mix of these three. But he had it all. HC Pete Carroll had found a lethal weapon. His name is forever etched with the Seahawks’ history as he won their first Super Bowl (XLVIII). The only trophy in their career so far! If someone ever brought those memories again, the signal caller was bound to become emotional.
On March 22, he shared a video of his touchdowns over the years from his days with the Hawks, Broncos, and even the Steelers. But the signal caller couldn’t control his emotions and wrote a heartfelt but short 5-word message that read, “Gotta Love Moments like these! 🏈🌗🌛” The message is obvious. He still misses those days.

When Russell Wilson arrived as the 3rd-round pick (75th overall) in 2012 draft, the fans were not particularly happy. They doubted his talent based on 5-foot-10 height. But he proved naysayers wrong. In 10 seasons with Pete Carroll, they took the team into playoffs 8 times. It’s impressive!
During the decade with the Seahawks, Mr. Unlimited also started 149 consecutive games, 6th most in NFL history. But the departure was not smooth. After moving to the Broncos, reports emerged about the signal caller wanting eviction of Pete Carroll and other coaches. But he couldn’t perform. In 2024, the Steelers had high hopes from the QB. All of them crashed as their season ended with the wildcard loss against the Ravens.
Since then, his stock is on a decline. He has been visiting teams like NY Giants and the Browns. A few details have come out of the QB’s expectations. These may make things hard for him.
Russell Wilson expecting a fortune in deal
ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi was first to reveal the details about his deal as he mentioned, “I think the Browns feel that Russell Wilson is a little too expensive for their taste right now. He’s reportedly asking for $20 to $30 million dollars.” It’s official now. The QB asked a deal between $20-30 million from the Browns. But the franchise is not willing to offer that much.

So, they are reassessing their options. It’s crazy! Just to put things in perspective, he signed a 5-year $245 million deal with the Broncos in 2022. That’s $49 million yearly! When Russell Wilson arrived in the Steelers, he signed a league veteran minimum ($1.2 million). A 90% slump! So, expecting a deal between $20-30 million is a huge jump. But then, the Broncos did take up the load of giving him his salary for last year, the Steelers were simply giving him the vet minimum. The Browns need a backup QB after the uncertainty over the return of premier QB Deshaun Watson agrees.
For the Browns, the situation is more complicated than it seems. Not only the veteran QB, they also need a backup. That’s Carson Wentz. Additionally, they also hold the number 2 pick in the coming draft. So, they can easily choose any one of the top 2 QB picks in 2025. Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders!

However, Russell Wilson is still a strong QB choice. Last year, in the Steelers, he looked good in the center. This year, he first needs to find his franchise. Only then he can make strategies to prolong his career.
