Russell Wilson is out of the games for the time being because of a self-inflicted calf injury. He endured this before the regular season started. While it was nothing “too serious” at the time, Pittsburgh Steelers did not clear him for quarterback duties on the field.
His absence hasn’t stopped the Steelers from scoring two victories in a row. Thanks to the quarterback replacing him for this season, Justin Fields, the team is doing great on the gridiron. With fans rallying behind him, Wilson also thought he would endorse his fellow teammate.
After seeing Fields lead the team to victory during the Week 2 Sunday Game, Wilson celebrated his presence. He uploaded an Instagram story with the quarterback on it, raising his hands high in the sky to celebrate the game won. Wilson added a hyphen and a ‘0’ next to the number 2 on Fields’ jersey, showcasing Pittsburgh’s record this season.

The injured QB wrote, “Yesss Sirrr” as a way of appreciating his fellow QB. The Steelers winning was an interesting result for the game, especially after the Denver Broncos head coach mentioned how they will be training keeping Justin Fields in mind.

Despite the injury being ‘not too serious’, Pittsburgh is not letting Russell Wilson descend the IR list. Irrespective of the circumstances, he is showing that he is a good leader by supporting his team from the sidelines. This contrasts the accusations that Wilson invited earlier this year during his time with the Denver Broncos.

Before becoming a part of the Steelers, Russell Wilson was a prominent face in the Denver Broncos as a quarterback. Because of how high profile his position is, he constantly attracted criticisms. This one time, former NFL star Karl Mecklenburg took a shot at Wilson for his leadership skills on the field. The ex-linebacker for the Broncos was furious at him for not being a better QB. He wrote a tweet about him and said, “Russell Wilson isn’t a leader.” If this wasn’t enough, Mecklenburg took a personal dig at Wilson by calling him self-centered.
Russell Wilson isn’t a leader. The foolishness that went on in his first year at Denver with a private coach, his own office at the facility, and family at training camp when other players didn’t have those privileges, proved his self centeredness. pic.twitter.com/AVKfiWjdF6

This could have thrown anybody off guard and probably also affected Russ during his time there. He then switched over to the Steelers. While things were going alright for him here, a conditioning test cost him his calf. While pushing a sled, one of his calves got tightened. He did not specify which one, but even though things didn’t seem all that concerning, the medical team is not letting him be on the field just yet. Even the injury reports say that he is only participating in partial training.
So, the best way that Wilson can shake off the negative leader image is by supporting his team from the sidelines.
