Deal-threat quarterbacks have electrified the game, but when it comes to winning it all, history hasn’t been kind to them. In 71 seasons, only one quarterback who rushed for at least 500 yards ended up lifting the Lombardi Trophy—Russell Wilson in 2013. Now, after 12 years, the quarterback is one of the most reputed free agents of this offseason. But landing spots for him have dwindled, like sand slipping through fingers.

According to ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi, the quarterback wants a deal that would net him somewhere between $20 or $30 million annually. This demand is probably too high for Cleveland, which is one of his potential new homes. Other than the Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets are also considered a possible landing spot for him in 2025. But everything is just going around in circles. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Wilson from endorsing a former teammate who is also in the free agency market.

On Monday, Russell Wilson shared a story video on his official Instagram account. This featured post included some great plays by him and receiver Tyler Lockett, during their time together at the Seattle Seahawks. In the video, Wilson is seen throwing some great passes to Lockett as he finishes up the end zone every time, scoring touchdowns.

The 2015 NFL Draft’s 3rd round pick, Lockett, has moved to free agency from the Seahawks. And Russell Wilson wants teams to sign him up. That’s the reason, despite being in free agency himself, he endorsed Lockett’s bright future. Sharing the clip, the QB wrote, “That boy @tdlockett12 Gooood! @nfl.” In return, to show his gratitude, Tyler Lockett re-shared the story of Wilson, cementing the bond they still have.

In fact, the greatness of this bond could be easily seen in their stats when the duo was a common threat to their rivals. According to StatMuse, Tyler Lockett has recorded 433 catches for 5878 yards, along with 49 touchdowns in 108 games under Russell Wilson’s leadership. Despite being separated by the team’s decisions, Lockett still praised the QB in an interview in 2022, when Wilson signed with the Broncos. He stated, “I think that Seattle should cheer him on for everything that he’s done — help bring a Super Bowl to this community, all that different type of stuff. He’s an amazing guy.”

Having played with each other for around 7 years, the bond between them has become unbreakable. Kudos to both for keeping this on even till now! But Lockett isn’t the only one Russell Wilson thought of recently.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Russell Wilson still be a game-changer, or are his best days behind him?

Russell Wilson hasn’t left his good Seattle memories behind

For nearly a decade, Russell Wilson was the hero of Seattle. Be it the leadership or the family-man aura off the field, or even the great quarterback title on the gridiron, the man proved to be a role model. After Jim Mora’s firing, Pete Carroll became the eighth head coach in Seahawks history. And guess who wanted him to come into the team? That’s right – Russell Wilson!

And this connection actually worked wonders as they helped the team clinch their one and only Super Bowl in 2014. Now that many years have passed, Russell Wilson is reminded of Carroll once again. While sharing a post on X on March 22, the QB wrote: “Gotta Love Moments like these! (football and half moon emojis).” Along with this, Russell Wilson dropped a video of him scoring touchdowns over the years from Seattle to Denver to Pittsburgh.

It’s true that Mr. Unlimited still misses those golden days, especially with Carroll. But now, as a free agent, his attention is on finding his next home in the league. Whether that’s in New York or Cleveland or somewhere yet unspoken, we’re sure he’ll make some more memories and connections to cherish.
